Resting in prayer
Mark 6:46-48
After He said good-bye to them, He went away to the mountain to pray. When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land. He saw them being battered as they rowed, because the wind was against them. Around three in the morning He came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them. Jesus had just had a very long day of teaching even though His plan had been to get away and rest (v.31). He was certainly physically exhausted but instead of sleeping He chose to rest by spending time in prayer with His Father. From sunset till three in the morning He was praying in order to truly rest.
I feel exhausted from time to time. When I feel this way I want to go take a nap or go to bed earlier. Maybe GOD is calling me to spend some quality prayer time with Him instead. Not that sleeping is the wrong choice it's just that on occasion GOD may choose to give me rest through hours of prayer rather than sleeping. Jesus slept (Mat 8:24) but He also said He would give me rest (Mat 11:28-30).
LORD GOD of peace and rest there is none like You. Your glory fills the heavens even the highest heavens. Please forgive me when I am tired and always react in the natural deciding to sleep. Please teach me to be sensitive to what You are calling me to do. Please help me to realize when You are wanting me to spend the night with You in prayer. GOD I can't figure this out on my own so I ask You to help and guide me through this. I surrender to You. All glory be Yours forever in the name of Jesus amen.
