Come

On reflection it is amazing how many Scriptures pop into my head with the call to come...
Come to the waters and drink
Come to me all you are heavy laden and I shall live you rest
The Spirit and the bride say come...
Etc
The heart of our God is to call us to come.
The star for the magi was a call to come...not just an announcement that the king had been born, but an invitation to come to the King.
And so they came...a journey that was neither quick nor easy, they were willing to put in effort to answer the call and not just hope He would come to them, not just hang out a sign on their door saying I am available if you want to co e to me...
They met opposition and deception along the way, but they were not deterred.
They came, purposed to give not to receive ( though I have no doubt that they received much in the process).
LORD, help me to view Christmas not merely as an announcement of a wonderful event long ago, nor even of a reminder that You chose to live among us that we know God and be reconciled to Him, but as an invitation to come to You...to open my heart up to You afresh, to spend time in Your Presence...help me to make the effort this will require, to not be distracted, to not be put of by obstacles or deceptions...may the motive of my heart be to give myself to You not just to get from You.
