Season of fruit

Mark 11:13
After seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, He went to find out if there was anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.

Jesus uses this fig tree to illustrate several things. The most readily apparent is that with faith anything is possible. Strangely Jesus curses the fig tree because it has no fruit even though it is not the season for figs. This is very important because Jesus is also illustrating the point that those Christians who are not ready to bear fruit all the time may wither and die. Christians are called to be ready in season and out of season to bear fruit (2Tim 4:1-5).

I seek to have stronger faith and in that I will become more bold in preaching the Word. In being more bold to preach the Word I will bear more fruit. The only way to grow in both of these areas is to intake more and more of the Word. As Jesus had a hunger for figs so I need a hunger for the Word.

GOD of great mercy I praise You. Your glory surpasses all understanding. Please forgive me when I fail to be ready in season and out of season. Please create in me a deeper hunger for Your Word, a stronger boldness to preach and a deeper love for the lost. This would be impossible without Your help so I surrender to You that You may have Your way with me. I commit myself into Your hands to shape and to mold. All glory and praise be Yours forever and ever in the Name of Jesus amen.
