1 Chronicles 29

1 And David the king said unto all the assembly, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Jehovah God.2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the brass for the things of brass, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, stones for inlaid work, and of divers colors, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.3 Moreover also, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, seeing that I have a treasure of mine own of gold and silver, I give it unto the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,4 even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, wherewith to overlay the walls of the houses;5 of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. Who then offereth willingly to consecrate himself this day unto Jehovah?

6 Then the princes of the fathers’ houses, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king’s work, offered willingly;7 and they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron a hundred thousand talents.8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of Jehovah, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to Jehovah: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10 Wherefore David blessed Jehovah before all the assembly; and David said, Blessed be thou, O Jehovah, the God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.11 Thine, O Jehovah, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Jehovah, and thou art exalted as head above all.12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou rulest over all; and in thy hand is power and might; and in thy hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.16 O Jehovah our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name cometh of thy hand, and is all thine own.17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, that are present here, offer willingly unto thee.18 O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee;19 and give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

20 And David said to all the assembly, Now bless Jehovah your God. And all the assembly blessed Jehovah, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped Jehovah, and the king.21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel,22 and did eat and drink before Jehovah on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto Jehovah to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of Jehovah as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.25 And Jehovah magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,30 with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.

Donativos y colecta para el Templo

1 Luego el rey David se dirigió a toda la asamblea:
— Mi hijo Salomón, el únicot a quien Dios ha escogido, es joven e inexperto y la empresa es enorme, pues no es este el palacio para un hombre, sino para Dios, el Señor. 2 Con todas mis fuerzas yo he preparado para el Templo de mi Dios el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro y la madera necesarios para sus respectivos objetos, así como piedras de ónice y de engaste, piedras multicolores para mosaicos, toda clase de piedras preciosas y mármol en abundancia.t 3 Además, por amor al Templo de mi Dios, aparte de todo lo que he preparado para el santuario, he entregado el oro y la plata de mi propiedad personal para el Templo de mi Dios: t 4 trescientos talentos de oro de Ofir, setecientos talentos de platat fina para recubrir las paredes de las dependencias,

5 oro y plata para sus objetos respectivos y para toda la obra de los orfebres. ¿Quién está hoy dispuesto a hacer voluntariamente su donativo generoso al Señor?
6 Entonces los cabezas de familia, los jefes de las tribus de Israel, los capitanes de millar y de cien y los encargados de obras del rey hicieron donativos voluntarios 7 y entregaron para el servicio del Templo cinco mil talentos y diez mil dracmast de oro, diez mil talentos de plata, dieciocho mil de bronce y cien mil de hierro; 8 y los que tenían piedras preciosas las depositaron en manos del guersonita Jiel para el tesoro del Templo. 9 El pueblo se alegraba de los donativos voluntarios que habían hecho al Señor de todo corazón. El rey David también se alegró mucho

10 y bendijo al Señor ante toda la asamblea diciendo:
— ¡Bendito seas Señor, Dios de nuestro padre Israel, por siempre y para siempre! 11 Tuyos son, Señor, la grandeza, el poder, la gloria, el honor y la majestad, porque todo cuanto hay en cielo y tierra te pertenece, y ejerces el reinado y el dominio sobre todo. 12 Tu presencia irradia riqueza y gloria, Tú eres soberano de todo, en tu mano están la fuerza y la grandeza y con tu mano engrandeces y fortaleces a todos. 13 Por eso, Dios nuestro, nosotros te damos gracias y alabamos tu nombre glorioso. 14 Ni yo ni mi pueblo somos nadie para atrevernos a hacerte estos donativos, pues todo procede de ti y sólo te damos lo que de ti hemos recibido. 15 Ante ti no somos más que extranjeros y advenedizos, al igual que todos nuestros antepasados, y nuestra vida terrena es sólo una sombra efímerat.t 16 Señor Dios nuestro, todo este cúmulo de preparativos que hemos hecho para edificar un Templo en honor de tu santo nombre procede de ti y todo te pertenece. 17 Bien sé, Dios mío, que tú sondeas las conciencias y amas la sinceridad. Por eso, yo te he hecho todos estos donativos voluntaria y sinceramente, y ahora veo con alegría que tu pueblo, aquí presente, también ha contribuido voluntariamente. 18 Señor Dios de nuestros antepasados Abrahán, Isaac e Israel, conserva siempre en el corazón de tu pueblo estas actitudes e intenciones y encamina sus corazones hacia ti.

19 Da a mi hijo Salomón un corazón íntegro para poner en práctica todos tus mandatos, leyes y preceptos y para edificar el Templo que te he preparado.

20 Luego David dijo a toda la asamblea:
— Bendigan al Señor su Dios.
Y toda la asamblea bendijo al Señor Dios de sus antepasados y se inclinó con reverencia ante el Señor y ante el rey.

25 El Señor lo engrandeció extraordinariamente ante todo Israel y le concedió un reinado tan glorioso como no había tenido en Israel ningún rey precedente.
