1 Corinthians 10
1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;2 and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;3 and did all eat the same spiritual food;4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.9 Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.11 Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.14 Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?17 seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.18 Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?19 What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?23 All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.24 Let no man seek his own, but each his neighbor’s good.25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake,26 for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.27 If one of them that believe not biddeth you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake.28 But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:29 conscience, I say, not thine own, but the other’s; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.32 Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:33 even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.

La historia israelita como ejemplo
1 No deben olvidar, hermanos, que todos nuestros antepasados caminaron al amparo de aquella nube*, y atravesaron el mart.t 2 Todos fueron bautizados como seguidores de Moisés cuando aconteció lo de la nube y lo del mar.t 3 Todos comieron el mismo alimento espiritual y 4 todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, pues bebieron de la roca espiritual que los acompañabat, roca que representaba a Cristo.t
5 Y, a pesar de todo, la mayor parte de ellos no agradó a Dios, y fueron por eso aniquilados en el desierto.t
6 Todo aquello sucedió para servirnos de ejemplot a nosotros; para que no corramos tras el mal, como ellos corrieron;t 7 para que no se den ustedes a la idolatría, como se dieron algunos de ellos, según dice la Escritura: Se sentó el pueblo a comer y a beber, y se levantó luego a divertirse.t 8 Para que no nos entreguemos a la lujuria, como se entregaron algunos de ellos, por lo que perecieron veintitrés mil en un solo día;t 9 para que no pongamos a prueba la paciencia del Señor, como hicieron algunos de ellos y murieron mordidos por serpientes;t
10 y para que no se quejen ustedes de Dios, como se quejaron algunos de ellos, y los aniquiló el exterminador.t
11 A ellos les sucedieron estas cosas como ejemplo, y se han escrito para escarmiento de quienes vivimos ya en estos tiempos que son los últimost.t 12 Así que, si alguno presume de mantenerse firme, esté alerta, no sea que caiga.
13 Hasta ahora, ninguna prueba les ha sobrevenido que no pueda considerarse humanamente soportable. Dios es fiel y no permitirá que ustedes sean puestos a prueba más allá de sus propias fuerzas; al contrario, junto con la prueba les proporcionará también la manera de superarla con éxito.tRechazo de la idolatría
14 Eviten, por tanto, queridos míos, el culto a los ídolos. 15 Les hablo como a personas inteligentes, capaces de estimar el valor de lo que les digo. 16 La copa bendita que bendecimos, ¿no nos hace participar de la sangre de Cristo? Y el pan que partimos ¿no nos hace compartir el cuerpo de Cristo?t 17 Porque al haber un solo pan del que todos participamos, nosotros, que somos muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo.t 18 Fíjense en el pueblo israelita: ¿no es cierto que quienes se alimentan de las víctimas sacrificadas quedan vinculados al altart? 19 No quiero decir con ello que esas víctimas sacrificadas a los ídolos tengan algún valor o que los ídolos signifiquen algo.t 20 Lo que quiero decir es que esas víctimas se ofrecen a los demonios y no a Dios; y yo no quiero que ustedes entren en comunión con los demonios.t 21 No pueden beber de la copa del Señor y de la copa de los demonios; no pueden comer de la mesa del Señor y de la mesa de los demonios.
22 A no ser que pretendamos provocar la ira del Señor. ¿Nos creemos acaso más fuertes que él?Nueva llamada a la condescendencia
23 “Todo está permitido” —dicen algunos—. Sí, pero no todo es conveniente. Y aunque “todo esté permitido”, no todo ayuda al provecho espiritual de los demás.t
24 Que nadie busque su propio interés, sino el del prójimo.
25 Pueden comer de todo cuanto se vende en el mercado, sin plantearse problemas de conciencia, 26 porque del Señor es la tierra y todo lo que existe en ella.t 27 Si los invita un no cristiano y aceptan su invitación, coman lo que les ponga y no se planteen problema alguno de conciencia. 28 Pero si alguien les indica: “Eso es carne sacrificada a los ídolos”, entonces, en atención a quien se lo ha indicado y por razones de conciencia, no lo coman.t 29 Naturalmente, me refiero no a la conciencia de ustedes, sino a la de quien les ha hecho la indicación. Y ¿por qué —dirás— va a quedar coartada mi libertad por la conciencia de otro?
30 Si, cuando participo en un banquete, doy gracias a Dios por ello, ¿qué razón hay para que se me critique por algo que hago dando gracias a Dios?t
31 En cualquier caso, tanto si comen como si beben o hacen cualquier otra cosa, háganlo todo para gloria de Dios. 32 Pero no sean ocasión de pecado para nadie, ya se trate de judíos, de paganost o de miembros de la Iglesia de Dios.t 33 Ya ven que yo procuro dar completa satisfacción a todos, y no busco mi propio provecho, sino el de todos los demás, a fin de que se salven.t
