1 John 5
1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments.3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith.5 And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood.7 And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth.8 For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one.9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son.10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son.11 And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life.13 These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God.14 And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:15 and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.16 If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request.17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.18 We know that whosoever is begotten of God sinneth not; but he that was begotten of God keepeth himself, and the evil one toucheth him not.19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one.20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.21 My little children, guard yourselves from idols.

La fe que vence al mundo
1 Si creemos que Jesús es el Cristo, somos hijos de Dios. Ahora bien, no es posible amar al padre sin amar también al que es hijo del mismo padre.t 2 Y conocemos que estamos amando a los hijos de Dios, cuando de veras amamos a Dios cumpliendo sus mandamientos, 3 puesto que amar a Dios consiste en cumplir sus mandamientos. No se trata, por lo demás, de preceptos insoportables,t 4 ya que los hijos de Dios están equipados para vencer al mundo. Nuestra fe, en efecto, es la que vence al mundo,t 5 pues quien cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, triunfará sobre el mundo. 6 Jesucristo ha venido con agua y sangret; no sólo con el agua, sino con el agua y la sangre. Y el Espíritu, que es la verdad, da testimonio de esto.t 7 Porque los testigost son tres:t 8 el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre. Y los tres están de acuerdo. 9 Nosotros aceptamos testimonios humanos; pues bien, el testimonio de Dios es mucho más digno de crédito y consiste en haber declarado a favor de su Hijo.t 10 Por eso, si creemos en el Hijo de Dios, es que hemos aceptado el testimonio de Dios. Pero quien no se fía de Dios ni presta crédito al testimonio que él ha dado en favor de su Hijo, está acusando a Dios de mentiroso.t 11 Y lo que se testifica es que Dios nos ha dado la vida eterna y que esa vida está en su Hijo.t
12 Quien vive unido al Hijo, tiene la vida; quien no vive unido al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la vida.Conclusión (5,13-21)
Vida y muerte eternas
13 A ustedes, los que creen en el Hijo de Dios, les he escrito todo esto para hacerles saber que poseen la vida eternat. 14 Tenemos plena confianza en que, si algo pedimos a Dios tal y como él quiere, nos atenderá.t
15 Y si estamos seguros de que Dios siempre nos atiende, lo estamos también de conseguir lo que le pedimos.
16 Hay hermanos que cometen pecados que no llevan a la muertet. Debemos orar por ellos para que Dios les dé la vida. Pero sólo si se trata de pecados que no llevan a la muerte. En cambio, no mando rogar por quien comete el pecado que lleva a la muerte.
17 Cierto que toda mala conducta es pecado, pero hay pecados que no llevan a la muerte.El Hijo de Dios nos protege
18 En cuanto a nosotros, sabemos que todos los que han nacido de Dios no siguen pecando, pues el Hijo de Dios los proteget y los mantiene lejos del alcance del maligno.t 19 Sabemos también que somos de Dios, mientras que el mundo entero está sometido al maligno. 20 Sabemos, en fin, que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y ha iluminado nuestras mentes para que conozcamos al Verdaderot. Y nosotros estamos unidos al Verdadero y a su Hijo Jesucristo, que es Dios verdadero y vida eterna.t 21 Hijos míos, manténganse alejados de la idolatríat.t
