Genesis 35

1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments:3 and let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.4 And they gave unto Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hand, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.5 And they journeyed: and a terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Beth-el), he and all the people that were with him.7 And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el; because there God was revealed unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.8 And Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried below Beth-el under the oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bacuth.

9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;12 and the land which I gave unto Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.13 And God went up from him in the place where he spake with him.14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spake with him, a pillar of stone: and he poured out a drink-offering thereon, and poured oil thereon.15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth-el.

16 And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was still some distance to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; for now thou shalt have another son.18 And it came to pass, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem).20 And Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave: the same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.22 And it came to pass, while Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:23 The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s first-born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun;24 the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;25 and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid: Dan and Naphtali;26 and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid: Gad and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Paddan-aram.27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father to Mamre, to Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

28 And the days of Isaac were a hundred and fourscore years.29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, old and full of days: and Esau and Jacob his sons buried him.

Génesis 35

Dios bendice a Jacob en Bet-el

1 Dijo Dios a Jacob: «Levántate, sube a Bet-el y quédate allí; y haz allí un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»

2 Entonces Jacob dijo a su familia y a todos los que con él estaban:
—Quitad los dioses ajenos que hay entre vosotros, limpiaos y mudad vuestros vestidos.

3 Levantémonos y subamos a Bet-el, pues allí haré un altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia y que ha estado conmigo en el camino que he andado.
4 Ellos entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que tenían en su poder y los zarcillos que llevaban en sus orejas, y Jacob los escondió debajo de una encina que había junto a Siquem.

5 Cuando salieron, el terror de Dios cayó sobre las ciudades de sus alrededores, y no persiguieron a los hijos de Jacob.
6 Llegó Jacob a Luz, es decir, a Bet-el, que está en tierra de Canaán, él y todo el pueblo que con él estaba.7 Edificó allí un altar y llamó al lugar «El-bet-el», porque allí se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.

8 Entonces murió Débora, nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada al pie de Bet-el, debajo de una encina, la cual fue llamada «Alón-bacut».
9 Se le apareció otra vez Dios a Jacob a su regreso de Padan-aram, y lo bendijo.

10 Le dijo Dios:
«Tu nombre es Jacob;
pero ya no te llamarás Jacob,
sino que tu nombre será Israel.»
Y lo llamó Israel.

11 También le dijo Dios:
«Yo soy el Dios omnipotente:
crece y multiplícate;
una nación y un conjunto de naciones saldrán de ti,
y reyes saldrán de tus entrañas.

12 La tierra que he dado a Abraham y a Isaac
te la daré a ti,
y a tu descendencia después de ti.»
13 Y se fue Dios de su lado, del lugar desde el cual había hablado con él.14 Jacob erigió entonces una señal en el lugar donde había hablado con él, una señal de piedra; derramó sobre ella una libación y echó sobre ella aceite.

15 Y Jacob llamó Bet-el a aquel lugar donde Dios le había hablado.

Muerte de Raquel

16 Partieron de Bet-el, y cuando aún faltaba como media legua para llegar a Efrata, Raquel dio a luz, pero tuvo un mal parto.17 Aconteció que, como había trabajo en el parto, la partera le dijo: «No temas, porque también tendrás este hijo.»

18 Ella, al salírsele el alma —pues murió—, le puso por nombre Benoni; pero su padre lo llamó Benjamín.
19 Así murió Raquel, y fue sepultada en el camino de Efrata, la cual es Belén.

20 Levantó Jacob un pilar sobre su sepultura, y ésta es la señal de la sepultura de Raquel hasta hoy.
21 Israel salió de allí y plantó su tienda más allá de Migdal-edar.

22 Aconteció que, cuando habitaba Israel en aquella tierra, Rubén fue y durmió con Bilha, la concubina de su padre; de esto se enteró Israel.
Los hijos de Israel fueron doce.

Los hijos de Jacob

23 Hijos de Lea: Rubén, primogénito de Jacob, Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.24 Hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.25 Hijos de Bilha, sierva de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.

26 Hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad y Aser. Éstos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Padan-aram.

Muerte de Isaac

27 Fue Jacob junto a Isaac, su padre, a Mamre, a la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abraham e Isaac.28 Los días de Isaac fueron ciento ochenta años.

29 Exhaló Isaac el espíritu; murió y fue reunido a su pueblo, viejo y lleno de días. Lo sepultaron sus hijos Esaú y Jacob.
