James 5

1 Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you.2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.3 Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last days.4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.5 Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.6 Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous one; he doth not resist you.7 Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.8 Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.9 Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors.10 Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord.11 Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful.12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not under judgment.13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise.14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:15 and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.16 Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.17 Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.18 And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.19 My brethren, if any among you err from the truth, and one convert him;20 let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

Santiago 5

Contra los ricos opresores

1 Ahora, ustedes los ricos, escuchen con cuidado. ¡Lloren a voz en cuello por las calamidades que les sobrevendrán!2 Sus riquezas están podridas, y sus ropas están carcomidas por la polilla.3 Su oro y su plata están llenos de moho, y ese mismo moho los acusará, y los consumirá como el fuego. Ustedes acumulan riquezas, ¡hasta en los últimos tiempos!t4 Pero claman contra ustedes los sueldos que, con engaños, no han pagado a los que trabajaron levantando sus cosechas. ¡Y el clamor de esos trabajadores ha llegado a los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos!t5 Aquí en la tierra, ustedes han vivido rodeados de placeres, y lo único que han logrado es engordar para el día de la matanza.6 A la gente honrada la han condenado a morir, sin que ellos pudieran defenderse.

Oración y paciencia

7 Pero ustedes, hermanos, tengan paciencia hasta la venida del Señor. Fíjense en el labrador, cómo espera el preciado fruto de la tierra, y cómo aguarda con paciencia a que lleguen las lluvias tempranas y tardías.8 También ustedes, tengan paciencia y manténganse firmes, que ya está cerca la venida del Señor.9 Hermanos, no se quejen unos de otros, para que no sean condenados. ¡Vean que el juez ya está a la puerta!10 Hermanos míos, tomen como ejemplo de sufrimiento y de paciencia a los profetas que hablaron en el nombre del Señor.11 Recuerden que nosotros consideramos dichosos a los que pacientemente sufren. Ustedes ya han sabido de la paciencia de Job,t y saben también cómo lo trató el Señor al final, porque él es todo compasión y misericordia.t

12 Pero sobre todo, hermanos míos, no juren ni por el cielo, ni por la tierra, ni por ninguna otra cosa. Cuando digan «sí», que sea «sí»; y cuando digan «no», que sea «no». De lo contrario, caerán en condenación.t

13 ¿Hay alguien entre ustedes, que esté afligido? Que ore a Dios. ¿Alguno de ustedes está de buen humor? Que cante alabanzas.14 ¿Hay entre ustedes algún enfermo? Que se llame a los ancianos de la iglesia, para que oren por él y lo unjan con aceitet en el nombre del Señor.15 La oración de fe sanará al enfermo, y el Señor lo levantará de su lecho. Si acaso ha pecado, sus pecados le serán perdonados.16 Confiesen sus pecados unos a otros, y oren unos por otros, para que sean sanados. La oración del justo es muy poderosa y efectiva.17 Elías era un hombre con limitaciones semejantes a las nuestras. Pero oró con fervor para que no lloviera, y durante tres años y seis meses no llovió sobre la tierra.t18 Después volvió a orar, y el cielo dejó caer su lluvia, y la tierra dio sus frutos.t

19 Hermanos, si alguno de ustedes se ha apartado de la verdad, y otro lo hace volver a ella,20 sepan que el que haga volver al pecador de su mal camino, lo salvará de la muerte y cubrirá una gran cantidad de pecados.t
