John 14

1 Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.4 And whither I go, ye know the way.5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.25 These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.28 Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Jesús, el camino al Padre

1 «No se turbe su corazón. Ustedes creen en Dios; crean también en mí.2 En la casa de mi Padre hay muchos aposentos. Si así no fuera, ya les hubiera dicho. Así que voy a preparar lugar para ustedes.3 Y si me voy y les preparo lugar, vendré otra vez, y los llevaré conmigo, para que donde yo esté, también ustedes estén.4 Y ustedes saben a dónde voy, y saben el camino.»5 Tomás le dijo: «Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas; ¿cómo podemos saber el camino?»6 Jesús le dijo: «Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí.7 Si me conocieran, también conocerían a mi Padre; y desde ahora lo conocen, y lo han visto.»

8 Felipe le dijo: «Señor, muéstranos el Padre. Con eso nos basta.»9 Jesús le dijo: «Hace ya tanto tiempo que estoy con ustedes, ¿y tú, Felipe, no me has conocido? El que me ha visto a mí, ha visto al Padre; ¿cómo entonces dices: “Muéstranos al Padre”?10 ¿No crees que yo estoy en el Padre, y que el Padre está en mí? Las palabras que yo les hablo, no las hablo por mi propia cuenta, sino que el Padre, que vive en mí, es quien hace las obras.11 Créanme que yo estoy en el Padre, y que el Padre está en mí; de otra manera, créanme por las obras mismas.

12 »De cierto, de cierto les digo: El que cree en mí, hará también las obras que yo hago; y aun mayores obras hará, porque yo voy al Padre.13 Y todo lo que pidan al Padre en mi nombre, lo haré, para que el Padre sea glorificado en el Hijo.14 Si algo piden en mi nombre, yo lo haré.

La promesa del Espíritu Santo

15 »Si me aman, obedezcan mis mandamientos.16 Y yo rogaré al Padre, y él les dará otro Consolador, para que esté con ustedes para siempre:17 es decir, el Espíritu de verdad, al cual el mundo no puede recibir porque no lo ve, ni lo conoce; pero ustedes lo conocen, porque permanece con ustedes, y estará en ustedes.

18 »No los dejaré huérfanos; vendré a ustedes.19 Dentro de poco, el mundo no me verá más; pero ustedes me verán; y porque yo vivo, ustedes también vivirán.20 En aquel día ustedes sabrán que yo estoy en mi Padre, y que ustedes están en mí, y que yo estoy en ustedes.21 El que tiene mis mandamientos, y los obedece, ése es el que me ama; y el que me ama, será amado por mi Padre, y yo lo amaré, y me manifestaré a él.»

22 Judas (pero no el Iscariote) le dijo: «Señor, ¿cómo es que te manifestarás a nosotros, y no al mundo?»23 Jesús le respondió: «El que me ama, obedecerá mi palabra; y mi Padre lo amará, y vendremos a él, y con él nos quedaremos a vivir.24 El que no me ama, no obedece mis palabras; y la palabra que han oído no es mía, sino del Padre que me envió.

25 »Les he dicho estas cosas mientras estoy con ustedes.26 Pero el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, los consolará y les enseñará todas las cosas, y les recordará todo lo que yo les he dicho.

27 »La paz les dejo, mi paz les doy; yo no la doy como el mundo la da. No dejen que su corazón se turbe y tenga miedo.28 Ya me han oído decir que me voy, pero que vuelvo a ustedes. Si ustedes me amaran, se habrían regocijado de que voy al Padre, porque el Padre es mayor que yo.29 Y les he dicho esto ahora, antes de que suceda, para que cuando suceda, ustedes crean.30 Ya no hablaré mucho con ustedes, pues viene el príncipe de este mundo, que ningún poder tiene sobre mí.31 Pero para que el mundo sepa que amo al Padre, hago todo tal y como el Padre me lo ordenó. Levántense, vámonos de aquí.
