Luke 4
1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness2 during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered.3 And the devil said unto him, if thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread.4 And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.5 And he led him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.6 And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.7 If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine.8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.9 And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:10 for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee:
11 and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for a season.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and a fame went out concerning him through all the region round about.15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.21 And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth: and they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?23 And he said unto them, Doubtless ye will say unto me this parable, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in thine own country.24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is acceptable in his own country.25 But of a truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land;26 and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.28 And they were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things;29 and they rose up, and cast him forth out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong.30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way.31 And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath day:32 and they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority.33 And in the synagogue there was a man, that had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice,34 Ah! what have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt.36 And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.37 And there went forth a rumor concerning him into every place of the region round about.38 And he rose up from the synagogue, and entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s wife’s mother was holden with a great fever; and they besought him for her.39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she rose up and ministered unto them.40 And when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.41 And demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.42 And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came unto him, and would have stayed him, that he should not go from them.43 But he said unto them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Jesús es puesto a prueba
(Mt 4,1-11; Mc 1,12-13)
1 Jesús regresó del Jordán lleno del Espíritu Santo. El mismo Espíritu lo llevó al desierto, 2 donde el diablo lo puso a prueba durante cuarenta días. En todo ese tiempo no comió nada; así que al final sintió hambre.
3 Entonces le dijo el diablo:
— Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, di que esta piedra se convierta en pan.t
4 Jesús le contestó:
— Las Escrituras dicen: No sólo de pan vivirá el hombre.t
5 Luego, el diablo lo condujo a un lugar alto y, mostrándole en un instante todas las naciones del mundo,
6 le dijo:
— Yo te daré todo el poder y la grandeza de esas naciones, porque todo ello me pertenece, y puedo dárselo a quien quiera.t
7 Todo será tuyo si me adoras.
8 Jesús le contestó:
— Las Escrituras dicen: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás y sólo a él darás culto.
9 Entonces el diablo llevó a Jesús a Jerusalént, lo subió al alero del Templo y le dijo:
— Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, tírate de aquí abajo, 10 porque dicen las Escrituras: Dios ordenará a sus ángeles que cuiden de tit
11 y que te tomen en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra.
12 Jesús le contestó:
— También está dicho: No pondrás a prueba al Señor tu Dios.t
13 El diablo, entonces, terminó de poner a prueba a Jesús y se alejó de él en espera de una ocasión más propicia.tIII.— ANUNCIO DEL REINO EN GALILEA (4,14—9,50)
Jesús comienza su actividad en Galilea
(Mt 4,12-13; Mc 1,14-15)
14 Jesús, lleno del poder del Espíritu Santo, regresó a Galilea. Su fama se extendió por toda aquella región.
15 Enseñaba en las sinagogast y gozaba de gran prestigio a los ojos de todos.tRechazado en Nazaret
(Mt 13,53-58; Mc 6,1-6)
16 Llegó a Nazaret*, el lugar donde se había criado, y como tenía por costumbre, entró un sábado en la sinagoga, y se puso en pie para leer las Escriturast.t
17 Le dieron el libro del profeta Isaías y, al abrirlo, encontró el pasaje que dice:
18 El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí,
porque me ha consagrado
para llevar a los pobres
la buena noticia de la salvación;
me ha enviado a anunciar
la libertad a los presos
y a dar vista a los ciegos;
a liberar a los oprimidos t
19 y a proclamar un año en el que
el Señor concederá su gracia .
20 Cerró luego el libro, lo devolvió al ayudante de la sinagoga y se sentó. Todos los presentes lo miraban atentamente.
21 Y él comenzó a decirles:
— Este pasaje de la Escritura se ha cumplido hoy mismo en presencia de ustedes.
22 Todos le manifestaban su aprobación y estaban maravillados por las hermosas palabras que había pronunciado. Y comentaban:
— ¿No es este el hijo de José?t
23 Jesús les dijo:
— Sin duda, ustedes me aplicarán este refrán: “Médico, cúrate a ti mismo. Haz, pues, aquí en tu propia tierra, todo lo que, según hemos oído decir, has hecho en Cafarnaúnt”.
24 Y añadió:
— Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su propia tierra.t 25 Les diré más: muchas viudas vivían en Israel en tiempos de Elías, cuando por tres años y seis meses el cielo no dio ni una gota de agua y hubo gran hambre en todo el país.t 26 Sin embargo, Elías no fue enviado a ninguna de ellas, sino a una que vivía en Sarepta, en la región de Sidón.t 27 Y muchos leprosos había en Israel en tiempos del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue curado de su lepra, sino Naamán el sirio.t 28 Al oír esto, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron 29 y, echando mano a Jesús, lo arrojaron fuera del pueblo y lo llevaron a un barranco de la montaña sobre la que estaba asentado el pueblo, con intención de despeñarlo.
30 Pero Jesús se abrió paso entre ellos y se fue.tCuración de un endemoniado

31 Desde allí se dirigió a Cafarnaún, ciudad de Galilea, y pasaba los sábados enseñando. 32 Todos quedaban impresionados por sus enseñanzas, porque les hablaba con autoridad.t
33 Estaba allí, en la sinagoga, un hombre poseído por un demonio impuro que gritaba a grandes voces:t
34 — ¡Jesús de Nazaret, déjanos en paz! ¿Has venido a destruirnos? ¡Te conozco bien: tú eres el Santo de Dios!t
35 Jesús lo increpó, diciéndole:
— ¡Cállate y sal de él!
Y el demonio, tirándolo al suelo delante de todos, salió de él sin hacerle ningún daño.
36 Todos quedaron asombrados y se decían unos a otros:
— ¡Qué poderosa es la palabra de este hombre! ¡Con qué autoridad da órdenes a los espíritus impurost y estos salen!
37 Y la fama de Jesús se extendía por toda la comarca.Curación de la suegra de Pedro
(Mt 8,14-15; Mc 1,29-31)
38 Al salir de la sinagoga, Jesús fue a casa de Simónt. La suegra de Simón estaba enferma, con fiebre muy alta, y rogaron a Jesús que la curase.
39 Jesús, inclinándose sobre ella, increpó a la fiebre, y la fiebre desapareció. La enferma se levantó inmediatamente y se puso a atenderlos.Otras curaciones

40 A la puesta del solt, llevaron ante Jesús toda clase de enfermos, y él los curaba poniendo las manos sobre cada uno.
41 Muchos estaban poseídos por demonios, que salían de ellos gritando:
— ¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!
Pero Jesús los increpaba y no les permitía que hablaran de élt, porque sabían que era el Mesías.tJesús recorre los pueblos de la región
(Mc 1,35-39)
42 Al hacerse de día, Jesús salió de la ciudad y se retiró a un lugar solitario. La gente estaba buscándolo y, cuando lo encontraron, querían retenerlo para impedir que se fuera de allí.
43 Pero Jesús les dijo:
— Tengo que ir también a otras ciudades, a llevarles la buena noticia del reino de Dios, pues para eso he sido enviado.t
44 Y andaba proclamando el mensaje por las sinagogas de Judeat.
