Psalm 49
1 Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,
2 Both low and high, Rich and poor together.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?
6 They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;
8 (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;)
9 That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.
10 For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.
12 But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.
13 This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah
14 They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah
16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.
18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,)
19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.
20 Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish.

Salmo 49 (48)
No perdura el ser humano por su riqueza
1 Al maestro del coro. De los hijos de Coré. Salmo.
2 Escuchen esto todos los pueblos,
oigan cuantos habitan la tierra,t
3 el pueblo llano y los nobles,
los ricos y los humildest.
4 Proclamaré palabras sabias,
serán sensatas mis reflexiones,
5 prestaré atención al proverbio,
expondré con la cítara mi enigma.
6 ¿Por qué he de temer en tiempo adverso
que me cerque la maldad de mis rivalest,
7 de aquellos que confían en sus bienes
y de su inmensa riqueza se jactan?t
8 Pues nadie puede redimir a otro,
ni pagar a Diost su rescate.
9 Es tan alto el precio de su vida
que siempre les falta algot.t
10 ¿Seguirá vivo por siempre?
¿Acaso no verá él la tumba?t
11 He aquí que también perecen los sabios,
lo mismo que mueren los necios e ignorantes,
y dejan a otros sus riquezast.t
12 Piensan que sus casas son eternas*,
que son perpetuas sus moradas,
que para siempre dominan las tierrast.
13 Pero el ser humano no perdura por su riqueza;
como los animales mueren, igual él.t
14 Este es el destino del que en sí confía,
el porvenir de los que hablan satisfechos. [Pausa]
15 Se dirigen al reino de los muertos*
cual rebaño al que la misma muerte pastorea.
De mañana los someten los íntegros*
mientras su imagen se desfigura
en el reino de los muertos;
lejos de sus palaciost.t
16 Pero a mí Dios va a rescatarme
de la garra del reino de los muertos,
sí, él me llevará consigot.t [Pausa]
17 No recelaré si alguno se enriquece,
si aumenta el prestigio de su casa,
18 pues al morir nada podrá llevarse,
su prestigio no descenderá tras élt.t
19 Mientras él vivía, se felicitaba diciendo:
“Te admiran porque has prosperado”.
20 Marchará junto a sus antepasadost
que ya nunca más verán la luz.t
21 No perdura el ser humano por su riqueza;
como mueren los animales, igual él.
