SOAP Boasting

Scripture- “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.

Observation- Paul uses his God-given authority to instruct the Corinthians, and all believers, about how we are only to boast only about the Lord.

Application- When we do something well, we want to tell others about it and be recognized. But, this is very dangerous! Though it is easy to fall into the trap of bragging about the accomplishments we've made, we should remind ourselves and others that we have what we have because the Lord has chosen to bless us with those things and abilities.

This reminds me of one the most misused scriptures in the bible, "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" (job1:21). Job was crying out and just dealing with the tragic loss of all he had, the only way he knew how. The Lord later explained to job that he was speaking of things he knew nothing about.

It is Satan that comes to take away, and though the Lord can intervene and stop the destruction, he sometimes doesn't because it will benefit the person to experience the loss, or benefit someone else somehow.

We may never understand why God doesn't stop bad things from happening in our lives, but one thing we can be sure about, is that everything GOOD comes from God. So let's give credit where credit is due! And then he can use your life as an example to others who put their faith in him! And though, trials continue and the pain of loss is inevitable, others will see the comfort and peace you have thru it all.. giving them hope and encouragement to draw near to the Lord as well!

Prayer- Thank You my king for my humbled heart! Though you have blessed me with so much, I know it is all YOU! I'm forever thankful for my broken past and every other thing that helped me realize that I'm nothing without you. Search my heart and keep up your good work in me..

I vow to never take credit for all you do in me... I mean, How could I take credit? I remember what life was like without u.. I'm thankful u removed all the shame and guilt of my past, but left the memories of the emptiness I experienced without u God!

Please continue to take care of my kids, as they move to different states to pursue their careers and college. I give them wholeheartedly to u God! Please be with them daily since I no longer can. You gave them to me... and I give them and everything I have back to u Lord! I trust and love you with all my heart. In Jesus' Holy Name, Amen
