Welcome
We are so glad you have joined us today. We hope that you find today's worship experience both encouraging and challenging.
Financial Margin
In our culture today, financial stress is completely normal. You see it in almost everyone with whom you come in contact. Living paycheck to paycheck, debt, worry, anxiety, and fear are a part of the American financial scene. Today, we are going to explore Financial Margin. Financial margin is the ability to be financially at rest. Not anxious, not worried, and not afraid. It is something that most people do not have...but I believe God wants us to experience it. It is possible...and, according to the Bible, it is good!
Proverbs 21:20
Proverbs 21:21 NIV
He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.
1 Timothy 6:6-10
1 Timothy 6:6-10 NIV
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
The House of the Wise
There is a wise way to manage the money God entrusts to us; and there is a foolish way. Unfortunately, most Americans choose the foolish way. According to 1 Timothy 6:6, there is great gain associated with contentment. Not just marginal, sort of gain, but great gain.
Matthew 6:19-21
Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The Practical Solution
The culture's definition of happiness is "more than I currently have". For most of us, margin is not an income problem; it is a lifestyle problem. Even more than a lifestyle problem, it is a spiritual problem. Where your money goes, your heart follows. Practically, to create financial margin, you either have to earn more or spend less.
The Spiritual Solution
To really create financial margin, you must put God first in your finances. If you will put God first, you will experience at least three benefits: 1) You will experience God's blessing; 2) You will become supernaturally content; 3) You will end up with what matters most.
Malachi 3:10
Malachi 3:10 NIV
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Proverbs 15:16
Proverbs 15:16 NIV
Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.
Proverbs 8:18-19
Proverbs 8:18-19 NIV
With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
This Week's Challenge
Begin each day asking God to keep you spiritually content throughout the day. Commit or recommit to tithe for the next 90 days.
