2 Chronicles 36
1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s stead in Jerusalem.2 Joahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.3 And the king of Egypt deposed him at Jerusalem, and fined the land a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Neco took Joahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.5 Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God.6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.7 Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of Jehovah to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah.10 And at the return of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of Jehovah, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.11 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem:12 and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God; he humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of Jehovah.13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart against turning unto Jehovah, the God of Israel.14 Moreover all the chiefs of the priests, and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted the house of Jehovah which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.15 And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling-place:16 but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed: he gave them all into his hand.18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes, all these he brought to Babylon.19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:21 to fulfil the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its sabbaths: for as long as it lay desolate it kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath Jehovah, the God of heaven, given me; and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whosoever there is among you of all his people, Jehovah his God be with him, and let him go up.

Règnes de Joachaz, Joaquim et Joakin

1 A Jérusalem, les citoyens de Juda choisirent Joachaz, fils de Josias, pour en faire le successeur de son père. 2 Joachaz avait vingt-trois ans lorsqu’il devint roi ; il ne régna que trois mois à Jérusalem. 3 Néco, roi d’Égypte, le destitua, à Jérusalem, et exigea du pays de Juda une redevance de trois mille kilos d’argent et trente kilos d’or.
4 Ensuite il désigna Éliaquim, frère de Joachaz, comme roi de Jérusalem et de Juda, et changea son nom en Joaquim. Quant à son frère Joachaz, il l’emmena en Égyptet.
5 Joaquimt avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu’il devint roi ; il régna onze ans à Jérusalem et fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur son Dieu. 6 Nabucodonosor, roi de Babylone, envahit son pays. Il fit enchaîner solidement Joaquim et l’emmena à Babylonet.
7 Il emporta également à Babylone divers objets du temple du Seigneur et les plaça dans son palaist.
8 Le reste de l’histoire de Joaquim est contenu dans le livre des rois d’Israël et de Judat ; on y raconte les pratiques abominables auxquelles il s’est livré et tout ce qui lui est arrivé. Ce fut son fils Joakin qui lui succéda.
9 Joakin avait huit anst lorsqu’il devint roi ; il ne régna que trois mois et dix jours à Jérusalem et fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur.
10 Au début du printemps, Nabucodonosor le fit amener à Babylone, avec des objets précieux du temple du Seigneur, et il désigna Sédécias, un proche parent de Joakin, comme roi de Jérusalem et de Judat.Règne de Sédécias. Prise de Jérusalem

11 Sédéciast avait vingt et un ans lorsqu’il devint roi ; il régna onze ans à Jérusalem. 12 Il fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur son Dieu, et refusa même de reconnaître ses fautes devant le prophète Jérémie qui lui parlait de la part du Seigneur. 13 Le roi Nabucodonosor lui avait fait prêter serment au nom du Seigneur Dieu, mais malgré cela Sédécias se révolta contre luit. Il s’entêta, refusant catégoriquement de revenir au Seigneur, le Dieu d’Israël. 14 De même, les chefs des prêtres et du peuple, tous plus infidèles les uns que les autres envers Dieu, se livrèrent aux pratiques abominables des nations païennes et profanèrent le temple que le Seigneur s’était consacré à Jérusalem. 15 Le Seigneur, le Dieu de leurs ancêtres, plein d’amour envers son peuple et son sanctuaire, envoya à maintes reprises des messagers leur parler de sa part, 16 mais les Israélites bafouèrent les messagers, se moquèrent des prophètes et négligèrent les paroles de Dieu. Alors le Seigneur finit par laisser éclater sa colère contre eux au point qu’ils ne purent rien faire pour y échapper. 17 Il fit envahir le pays par le roi de Babylonet et livra tout à son pouvoir. Ce roi massacra les soldats jusque dans le sanctuaire ; il n’épargna ni les jeunes gens, ni les jeunes filles, ni les adultes, ni les vieillards. 18 Il prit tous les objets du temple, grands ou petits, ainsi que les trésors du temple, du roi et des ministres, et il emporta le tout à Babylone. 19 Les Babyloniens incendièrent le temple de Dieu, démolirent la muraille de Jérusalem, mirent le feu aux belles maisons et détruisirent tous les objets précieux de la villet. 20 Leur roi déporta à Babylone ceux qui avaient survécu aux massacres : ils devinrent ses esclaves, puis ceux de ses descendants, jusqu’à l’avènement de l’empire perse.
21 Ainsi se réalisa la parole que le Seigneur avait prononcée par la bouche du prophète Jérémie : « Le pays sera abandonné pendant soixante-dix ans, jusqu’à ce que soit achevé son temps de repos, pour compenser les périodes de repos qui n’ont pas été observées »t.Cyrus autorise la reconstruction du temple
22 Durant la première annéet du règne de Cyrus, roi de Perse, le Seigneur décida de réaliser la parole qu’il avait prononcée par la bouche du prophète Jérémie. Il fit naître dans l’esprit de Cyrus l’idée de publier dans tout son empire, de vive voix et par écrit, le texte suivant : 23 « Voici ce que proclame Cyrus, roi de Perse : Le Seigneur, le Dieu du ciel, a soumis à mon autorité tous les royaumes de la terre. Il m’a chargé de lui reconstruire un temple à Jérusalem, dans le pays de Juda. Tous ceux d’entre vous qui appartiennent à son peuple sont invités à regagner Jérusalem. Que le Seigneur leur Dieu soit avec eux ! »
