Acts 9
1 But Saul, yet breathing threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,2 and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the synagogues, that if he found any that were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.3 And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven:4 and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:6 but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.7 And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no man.8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.9 And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink.10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said unto him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth;12 and he hath seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he did to thy saints at Jerusalem:14 and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name.15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel:16 for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.17 And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.18 And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight; and he arose and was baptized;19 and he took food and was strengthened. And he was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus.20 And straightway in the synagogues he proclaimed Jesus, that he is the Son of God.21 And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of them that called on this name? and he had come hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests.22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews that dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.23 And when many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel together to kill him:24 but their plot became known to Saul. And they watched the gates also day and night that they might kill him:25 but his disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.26 And when he was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.28 And he was with them going in and going out at Jerusalem,29 preaching boldly in the name of the Lord: and he spake and disputed against the Grecian Jews; but they were seeking to kill him.30 And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.31 So the church throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was multiplied.32 And it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all parts, he came down also to the saints that dwelt at Lydda.33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had kept his bed eight years; for he was palsied.34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ healeth thee: arise and make thy bed. And straightway he arose.35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.37 And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.38 And as Lydda was nigh unto Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men unto him, entreating him, Delay not to come on unto us.39 And Peter arose and went with them. And when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.41 And he gave her his hand, and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.42 And it became known throughout all Joppa: and many believed on the Lord.43 And it came to pass, that he abode many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

La conversion de Saul

1 Pendant ce temps, Saul ne cessait de menacer de mort les disciples du Seigneur. Il alla trouver le grand-prêtre 2 et lui demanda des lettres d’introduction pour les synagogues de Damas, afin que, s’il y trouvait des personnes, hommes ou femmes, qui suivaient le chemin du Seigneurt, il puisse les arrêter et les amener à Jérusalem. 3 Il était en route pour Damas et approchait de cette ville, quand, tout à coup, une lumière qui venait du ciel brilla autour de lui. 4 Il tomba à terre et entendit une voix qui lui disait : « Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu ? » 5 Il demanda : « Qui es-tu Seigneur ? » Et la voix répondit : « Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes. 6 Mais relève-toi, entre dans la ville, et là on te dira ce que tu dois faire. » 7 Les compagnons de voyage de Saul s’étaient arrêtés sans pouvoir dire un mot ; ils entendaient la voix, mais ne voyaient personne. 8 Saul se releva de terre et ouvrit les yeux, mais il ne voyait plus rien. On le prit par la main pour le conduire à Damas.
9 Pendant trois jours, il fut incapable de voir et il resta sans rien manger ni boire.
10 Il y avait à Damas un disciple appelé Ananias. Le Seigneur lui apparut dans une vision et lui dit : « Ananias ! » Il répondit : « Me voici, Seigneur. » 11 Le Seigneur lui dit : « Tu vas te rendre tout de suite dans la rue Droite et, dans la maison de Judas, demande un homme de Tarse appelé Saul. Il prie en ce moment 12 et, dans une vision, il a vu un homme appelé Ananias qui entrait et posait les mains sur lui afin qu’il puisse voir de nouveau. » 13 Ananias répondit : « Seigneur, de nombreuses personnes m’ont parlé de cet homme et m’ont dit tout le mal qu’il a fait à tes fidèles à Jérusalem. 14 Et il est venu ici avec le pouvoir que lui ont accordé les chefs des prêtres d’arrêter tous ceux qui font appel à ton nom. » 15 Mais le Seigneur lui dit : « Va, car j’ai choisi cet homme et je l’utiliserai pour faire connaître mon nom aux autres nations et à leurs rois, ainsi qu’au peuple d’Israël. 16 Je lui montrerai moi-même tout ce qu’il devra souffrir pour moi. » 17 Alors Ananias partit. Il entra dans la maison, posa les mains sur Saul et lui dit : « Saul, mon frère, le Seigneur Jésus qui t’est apparu sur le chemin par lequel tu venais m’a envoyé pour que tu puisses voir de nouveau et que tu sois rempli du Saint-Esprit. » 18 Aussitôt, des sortes d’écailles tombèrent des yeux de Saul et il put voir de nouveau. Il se leva et fut baptisé ;
19 puis il mangea et les forces lui revinrent.Saul prêche à Damas
Saul resta quelques jours avec les disciples qui étaient à Damas. 20 Il se mit immédiatement à prêcher dans les synagogues, en proclamant que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu. 21 Tous ceux qui l’entendaient étaient étonnés et demandaient : « N’est-ce pas cet homme qui persécutait violemment à Jérusalem ceux qui font appel au nom de Jésus ? Et n’est-il pas venu ici exprès pour les arrêter et les ramener aux chefs des prêtres ? »
22 Mais Saul se montrait toujours plus convaincant : les Juifs qui vivaient à Damas ne savaient plus que lui répondre quand il leur démontrait que Jésus est le Messie.
23 Après un certain temps, les Juifs prirent ensemble la décision de faire mourir Saul, 24 mais il fut averti de leur complot. On surveillait les portes de la ville jour et nuit, afin de le mettre à mort.
25 Alors les disciples de Saul l’emmenèrent de nuit pour le faire passer de l’autre côté du mur de la ville, en le descendant dans une corbeillet.Saul à Jérusalem
26 Arrivé à Jérusalem, Saul essaya de se joindre aux disciples ; mais tous en avaient peur, car ils ne croyaient pas qu’il fût vraiment un disciple. 27 Barnabas le prit alors avec lui et le conduisit auprès des apôtres. Il leur raconta comment Saul avait vu le Seigneur en cours de route et comment le Seigneur lui avait parlé. Il leur dit aussi avec quelle assurance Saul avait prêché au nom de Jésus à Damas. 28 A partir de ce moment, Saul se tint avec eux, il allait et venait dans Jérusalem et prêchait avec assurance au nom du Seigneur. 29 Il s’adressait aussi aux Juifs de langue grecque et discutait avec eux ; mais ceux-ci cherchaient à le faire mourir.
30 Quand les frères l’apprirent, ils conduisirent Saul à Césarée, d’où ils le firent partir pour Tarse.
31 L’Église était alors en paix dans toute la Judée, la Galilée et la Samarie ; elle se fortifiait et vivait dans la soumission au Seigneur, elle s’accroissait grâce à l’aide du Saint-Esprit.La guérison d’Énée
32 Pierre, qui parcourait tout le pays, se rendit un jour chez les croyants qui vivaient à Lydda. 33 Il y trouva un homme appelé Énée qui était couché sur un lit depuis huit ans, parce qu’il était paralysé. 34 Pierre lui dit : « Énée, Jésus-Christ te guérit ! Lève-toi et fais ton lit. » Aussitôt Énée se leva.
35 Tous les habitants de Lydda et de la plaine de Saron le virent et se convertirent au Seigneur.Dorcas est ramenée à la vie
36 Il y avait à Jaffa une femme croyante appelée Tabitha. – Ce nom se traduit en grec par « Dorcas », ce qui signifie « gazelle ». – Elle était continuellement occupée à faire du bien et à venir en aide aux pauvres. 37 En ce temps-là, elle tomba malade et mourut. Après avoir lavé son corps, on le déposa dans une chambre, en haut de la maisont. 38 Les disciples de Jaffa avaient appris que Pierre se trouvait à Lydda, qui est proche de Jaffat. Ils lui envoyèrent deux hommes avec ce message : « Nous t’en prions, viens chez nous sans tarder. » 39 Pierre partit tout de suite avec eux. Lorsqu’il fut arrivé, on le conduisit dans la chambre située en haut de la maison. Toutes les veuves s’approchèrent de lui en pleurant ; elles lui montrèrent les chemises et les manteaux que Tabitha avait faits quand elle vivait encore. 40 Pierre fit sortir tout le monde, se mit à genoux et pria. Puis il se tourna vers le corps et dit : « Tabitha, lève-toi ! » Elle ouvrit les yeux et, quand elle vit Pierre, elle s’assit. 41 Pierre lui prit la main et l’aida à se lever. Il appela ensuite les croyants et les veuves, et la leur présenta vivante. 42 On le sut dans toute la ville de Jaffa et beaucoup crurent au Seigneur. 43 Pierre resta assez longtemps à Jaffa chez un ouvrier sur cuir, appelé Simon.
