Deuteronomy 30
1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither Jehovah thy God hath driven thee,2 and shalt return unto Jehovah thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul;3 that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee.4 If any of thine outcasts be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:5 and Jehovah thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.6 And Jehovah thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.7 And Jehovah thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, that persecuted thee.8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of Jehovah, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.9 And Jehovah thy God will make thee plenteous in all the work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good: for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;10 if thou shalt obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou turn unto Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off.12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;16 in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it.17 But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days in the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it.19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed;20 to love Jehovah thy God, to obey his voice, and to cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Israël reviendra au Seigneur
1 Tout ce que je vous ai décrit, promesses de bonheur et menaces de malheurt, s’accomplira. Lorsque le Seigneur votre Dieu vous aura dispersés chez des peuples étrangers, vous méditerez sur ces événements, 2 vous reviendrez à lui et vous lui obéirez de nouveau. Vous et vos descendants, vous vous conformerez ainsi de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme aux commandements que je vous communique aujourd’hui. 3 Le Seigneur votre Dieu changera votre sortt, il vous manifestera sa bonté et vous fera revenir de tous les pays où il vous aura dispersés. 4 Même si vous êtes alors en exil aux extrémités de la terre, le Seigneur ira vous y chercher et il vous rassemblera 5 pour vous ramener dans le pays de vos ancêtres. Vous en reprendrez possession, et le Seigneur vous y traitera mieux que vos ancêtres, il vous y rendra plus nombreux qu’eux. 6 Le Seigneur votre Dieu lui-même purifiera votre cœurt et celui de vos descendants, pour que vous l’aimiez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme, et qu’ainsi vous puissiez vivre. 7 Tous les malheurs que je vous ai décrits, il les infligera à vos ennemis et à ceux qui vous poursuivent de leur haine, 8 tandis que vous, vous lui obéirez de nouveau, en accomplissant tout ce que je vous ordonne de sa part aujourd’hui. 9 Le Seigneur votre Dieu vous accordera le succès dans tout ce que vous entreprendrez. Vous aurez de nombreux enfants, vos bêtes auront de nombreux petits et vos récoltes seront abondantes. En effet, autant le Seigneur s’est plu à faire du bien à vos ancêtres, autant il se plaira à vous en faire,
10 si vous lui obéissez et mettez en pratique les commandements et les prescriptions contenus dans le présent livre de la loi, et si vous revenez à lui de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.La parole de Dieu est toute proche
11 Les commandements que je vous communique aujourd’hui ne sont pas trop difficiles à comprendre ni hors d’atteinte pour vous. 12 Ils ne sont pas au cielt, pour qu’on dise : « Qui montera au ciel pour aller nous les chercher et nous les communiquer, afin que nous puissions les mettre en pratique ? » 13 Ils ne sont pas non plus au-delà des mers, pour qu’on dise : « Qui traversera les mers pour aller nous les chercher et nous les communiquer, afin que nous puissions les mettre en pratique ? »
14 Non, cette parole du Seigneur est tout près de vous, dans votre bouche et dans votre cœur, et vous pouvez la mettre en pratique.Choisir la vie
15 Israélites, voyez : Aujourd’hui je place devant vous la vie et le bonheur d’une part, la mort et le malheur d’autre part. 16 Prêtez donc attention aux commandements que je vous communique aujourd’hui : acceptez d’aimert le Seigneur votre Dieu, de suivre le chemin qu’il vous trace, d’obéir à ses commandements, à ses lois et à ses règles ; alors vous pourrez vivre, vous deviendrez nombreux, et le Seigneur vous comblera de bienfaits dans le pays dont vous allez prendre possession. 17 Mais si vous vous détournez de lui, si vous lui désobéissez, si vous vous laissez entraîner à adorer et servir d’autres dieux,
18 vous disparaîtrez complètement, je vous en préviens dès aujourd’hui ; vous ne resterez pas longtemps dans le pays dont vous allez prendre possession au-delà du Jourdain.
19 Oui, je vous avertis solennellement aujourd’hui, le ciel et la terre m’en sont témoins : je place devant vous la vie et la bénédiction d’une part, la mort et la malédiction d’autre part. Choisissez donc la vie, afin que vous puissiez vivre, vous et vos descendants. 20 Aimez le Seigneur votre Dieu, obéissez-lui, restez-lui fidèlement attachés : c’est ainsi que vous pourrez vivre et passer de nombreuses années dans le pays que le Seigneur a promis de donner à vos ancêtres Abraham, Isaac et Jacobt.
