Revelation 3

1 And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead.2 Be thou watchful, and establish the things that remain, which were ready to die: for I have found no works of thine perfected before my God.3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep it, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.4 But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments: and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy.5 He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and none shall shut, and that shutteth and none openeth:8 I know thy works (behold, I have set before thee a door opened, which none can shut), that thou hast a little power, and didst keep my word, and didst not deny my name.9 Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.10 Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.11 I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown.12 He that overcometh, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out thence no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and mine own new name.13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.14 And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.16 So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth.17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.19 As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.21 He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.

Lettre à l’Eglise de Sardes

1  tA l’ange de l’Eglise de Sardes, écris :
Voici ce que dit celui qui a les sept esprits de Dieu et les sept étoiles : Je connais tes œuvres ; je sais bien que tu es réputé vivant, mais tu es mort. 2 tSois vigilant et affermis le reste qui est sur le point de mourir, car je n’ai pas trouvé tes œuvres pleinement accomplies devant mon Dieu. 3 tRappelle-toi donc ce que tu as reçu et entendu, garde-le et change radicalement. Si tu ne veilles pas, je viendrai comme un voleur et tu ne sauras pas du tout à quelle heure je viendrai te surprendre.

4 tCependant, tu en as quelques-uns, à Sardes, qui n’ont pas souillé leurs vêtements ; ils marcheront avec moi en vêtements blancs, parce qu’ils en sont dignes.

5  tAinsi le vainqueur sera habillé de vêtements blancs ; je n’effacerai jamais son nom du livre de la vie, je reconnaîtrai son nom devant mon Père et devant ses anges.

6  tQue celui qui a des oreilles entende ce que l’Esprit dit aux Eglises !

Lettre à l’Eglise de Philadelphie

7  tA l’ange de l’Eglise de Philadelphie, écris :
Voici ce que dit le Saint, le Vrai, celui qui a la clef de David, celui qui ouvre de telle sorte que personne ne ferme, celui qui ferme de telle sorte que personne n’ouvre : 8 tJe connais tes œuvres ; j’ai mis devant toi une porte ouverte que personne ne peut fermer, parce que tu as peu de puissance, que tu as gardé ma parole et que tu n’as pas renié mon nom. 9 tJe te donnerai des gens de la synagogue du Satan, qui se disent juifs et ne le sont pas : ils mentent. Je ferai en sorte qu’ils viennent se prosterner à tes pieds et qu’ils sachent que, moi, je t’ai aimé. 10 tParce que tu as gardé la parole de ma persévérance, je te garderai moi-même de l’heure de l’épreuve qui va venir sur toute la terre habitée, pour mettre à l’épreuve les habitants de la terre.

11 tJe viens bientôt. Reste attaché à ce que tu as, pour que personne ne prenne ta couronne.

12  tLe vainqueur, j’en ferai une colonne dans le sanctuaire de mon Dieu, et il n’en sortira jamais plus. J’écrirai sur lui le nom de mon Dieu et le nom de la ville de mon Dieu, la Jérusalem nouvelle qui descend du ciel d’auprès de mon Dieu, ainsi que mon nom nouveau.

Lettre à l’Eglise de Laodicée

14  tA l’ange de l’Eglise de Laodicée, écris :
Voici ce que dit l’amen, le témoin fidèle et vrai, le commencement même de la création de Dieu : 15 tJe connais tes œuvres ; je sais bien que tu n’es ni froid ni bouillant. Si seulement tu étais froid ou bouillant ! 16 Ainsi, parce que tu es tiède et que tu n’es ni bouillant ni froid, je vais te vomir de ma bouche. 17 tParce que tu dis : « Je suis riche, je suis devenu riche, je n’ai besoin de rien », sans savoir que, toi-même, tu es misérable, pitoyable, pauvre, aveugle et nu, 18 tje te conseille de m’acheter de l’or purifié par le feu, afin que tu deviennes riche, des vêtements blancs, afin que tu sois habillé et que la honte de ta nudité ne devienne pas manifeste, et un collyre pour t’en oindre les yeux, afin que tu voies. 19 tTous mes amis, moi, je les reprends et je les corrige. Passionne-toi donc, change radicalement !

20 tJe me tiens à la porte et je frappe. Si quelqu’un m’entend et ouvre la porte, j’entrerai chez lui, je dînerai avec lui et lui avec moi.

21  tLe vainqueur, je lui donnerai de s’asseoir avec moi sur mon trône, comme moi-même j’ai été vainqueur et je me suis assis avec mon Père sur son trône.
22  tQue celui qui a des oreilles entende ce que l’Esprit dit aux Eglises !
