Romans 14
1 But him that is weak in faith receive ye, yet not for decision of scruples.2 One man hath faith to eat all things: but he that is weak eateth herbs.3 Let not him that eateth set at nought him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.4 Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? to his own lord he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be made to stand; for the Lord hath power to make him stand.5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.7 For none of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself.8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.10 But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or thou again, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God.11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge ye this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock in his brother’s way, or an occasion of falling.14 I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: save that to him who accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.15 For if because of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer in love. Destroy not with thy meat him for whom Christ died.16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.18 For he that herein serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved of men.19 So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another.20 Overthrow not for meat’s sake the work of God. All things indeed are clean; howbeit it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.21 It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything whereby thy brother stumbleth.22 The faith which thou hast, have thou to thyself before God. Happy is he that judgeth not himself in that which he approveth.23 But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Ne pas juger son frère
1 tAccueillez celui qui est faible dans la foi, sans discrimination d’opinions. 2 tTel a la foi pour manger de tout ; tel autre, qui est faible, ne mange que des légumes. 3 tQue celui qui mange ne méprise pas celui qui ne mange pas, et que celui qui ne mange pas ne juge pas celui qui mange, car Dieu l’a accueilli.
4 tQui es-tu, toi, pour juger le domestique d’autrui ? Qu’il tienne debout ou qu’il tombe, cela regarde son maître. Et il tiendra, car le Seigneur a le pouvoir de le faire tenir.
5 tTel juge, en effet, un jour supérieur à un autre ; tel autre les juge tous égaux. Que chacun, dans sa propre intelligence, soit animé d’une pleine conviction ! 6 tCelui qui tient compte des jours en tient compte pour le Seigneur. Celui qui mange, c’est pour le Seigneur qu’il mange, car il rend grâce à Dieu ; celui qui ne mange pas, c’est pour le Seigneur qu’il ne mange pas : il rend aussi grâce à Dieu. 7 tEn effet, aucun de nous ne vit pour lui-même, et aucun ne meurt pour lui-même. 8 tCar si nous vivons, nous vivons pour le Seigneur ; et si nous mourons, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous appartenons donc au Seigneur.
9 tCar si le Christ est mort et a repris vie, c’est pour être le Seigneur des morts et des vivants.
10 tDès lors, toi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère ? Ou bien, toi, pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère ? Tous, en effet, nous comparaîtrons devant le tribunal de Dieu.
11 tCar il est écrit :
Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, tout genou fléchira devant moi
et toute langue reconnaîtra Dieu !
12 tAinsi donc, chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour lui-même.Ne pas causer la chute de son frère
13 tNe nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres ; usez plutôt de votre jugement pour ne pas mettre devant votre frère une pierre d’achoppement ou une cause de chute. 14 tJe le sais bien, j’en suis persuadé, dans le Seigneur Jésus, rien n’est souillé en soi ; mais si quelqu’un estime qu’une chose est souillée, alors elle est souillée pour lui. 15 tSi, pour un aliment, ton frère est attristé, tu ne marches plus selon l’amour. Ne va pas, par ton aliment, causer la perte de celui pour qui le Christ est mort. 16 tQue personne, donc, ne puisse calomnier ce qui pour vous est bon. 17 tEn effet, le règne de Dieu, ce n’est pas le manger et le boire, mais la justice, la paix et la joie, par l’Esprit saint.
18 tCar celui qui, en tout cela, sert le Christ comme un esclave est agréé de Dieu et apprécié des humains.
19 tAinsi donc, poursuivons ce qui contribue à la paix et ce qui est constructif pour autrui. 20 tNe va pas détruire l’œuvre de Dieu pour un aliment. Certes, tout est pur ; mais il est mauvais de faire de sa nourriture une pierre d’achoppement. 21 tIl est beau de ne pas manger de viande, de ne pas boire de vin, de s’abstenir de tout ce qui est pour ton frère une cause d’achoppement. 22 tLa foi que tu as, toi, garde-la pour toi devant Dieu. Heureux celui qui ne se juge pas lui-même en exerçant son discernement ! 23 tMais celui qui hésite est condamné s’il mange, parce que ce qu’il fait ne relève pas de la foi. Or tout ce qui ne relève pas de la foi est péché.
