Romans 5
1 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;2 through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.3 And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;4 and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope:5 and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.6 For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die.8 But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him.10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life;11 and not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.12 Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:--13 for until the law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law.14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam’s transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come.15 But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many.16 And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one unto condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification.17 For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.18 So then as through one trespass the judgment came unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came unto all men to justification of life.19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.20 And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:21 that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

La paix avec Dieu
1 tEtant donc justifiés en vertu de la foi, nous sommes en paix avec Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ ; 2 tc’est par son entremise que nous avons eu, par la foi, accès à cette grâce dans laquelle nous nous tenons, et que nous mettons notre fierté dans l’espérance de la gloire de Dieu. 3 tBien plus, nous mettons notre fierté dans les détresses, sachant que la détresse produit l’endurance, 4 tl’endurance une fidélité éprouvée, et une fidélité éprouvée l’espérance.
5 tOr l’espérance ne rend pas honteux, puisque l’amour de Dieu a été répandu dans notre cœur par l’Esprit saint qui nous a été donné.
6 tEn effet, lorsque nous étions encore sans force, le Christ, en son temps, est mort pour des impies. 7 tA peine mourrait-on pour un juste ; peut-être quelqu’un aurait-il le courage de mourir pour un homme bon. 8 tOr voici comment Dieu, lui, met en évidence son amour pour nous : le Christ est mort pour nous alors que nous étions encore pécheurs. 9 tA bien plus forte raison, maintenant que nous sommes justifiés par son sang, serons-nous donc sauvés de la colère par son entremise ! 10 tCar si, lorsque nous étions ennemis, nous avons été réconciliés avec Dieu au moyen de la mort de son Fils, à bien plus forte raison, une fois réconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie.
11 tBien plus, nous mettons notre fierté en Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, par qui maintenant nous avons obtenu la réconciliation.Adam et Jésus-Christ
12 tC’est pourquoi, de même que par un seul homme le péché est entré dans le monde, et par le péché la mort, et qu’ainsi la mort est passée à tous les humains, parce que tous ont péché... 13 t– car, jusqu’à la loi, le péché était bien dans le monde, mais le péché n’est pas mis en compte quand il n’y a pas de loi.
14 tPourtant la mort a régné depuis Adam jusqu’à Moïse, même sur ceux qui n’avaient pas péché par une transgression semblable à celle d’Adam, lequel est la figure de celui qui allait venir.
15 tMais il n’en est pas du don de la grâce comme de la faute ; car si, par la faute d’un seul, la multitude a connu la mort, à bien plus forte raison la grâce de Dieu et le don de grâce d’un seul être humain, Jésus-Christ, ont-ils abondé pour la multitude. 16 tEt il n’en va pas de ce don comme du péché d’un seul homme. En effet, le jugement, à partir d’un seul, aboutit à la condamnation, tandis que le don de la grâce, à partir d’une multitude de fautes, aboutit à la pleine justice.
17 tCar si, par la faute d’un seul, la mort a régné par lui seul, à bien plus forte raison ceux qui reçoivent l’abondance de la grâce et du don de la justice régneront-ils dans la vie par le seul Jésus-Christ.
18 tAinsi donc, comme par une seule faute la condamnation s’étend à tous les humains, de même, par un seul accomplissement de la justice, la justification qui donne la vie s’étend à tous les humains. 19 tEn effet, tout comme par la désobéissance d’un seul être humain la multitude a été rendue pécheresse, de même, par l’obéissance d’un seul, la multitude sera rendue juste. 20 tOr la loi est intervenue pour que la faute foisonne ; mais là où le péché a foisonné, la grâce a surabondé. 21 tAfin que, tout comme le péché a régné dans la mort, de même la grâce règne par la justice, pour la vie éternelle, par Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur.
