Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.5 For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:8 and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.9 But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:13 for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.15 For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God:17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward.19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope21 that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.23 And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.24 For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth?25 But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.26 And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered;27 and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.28 And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.29 For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:30 and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth;34 who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

La vie selon l’Esprit de Dieu
1 tIl n’y a donc maintenant aucune condamnation pour ceux qui sont en Jésus-Christ.
2 tEn effet, la loi de l’Esprit de la vie en Jésus-Christ t’a libéré de la loi du péché et de la mort.
3 tCar – chose impossible à la loi, parce que la chair la rendait sans force – Dieu, en envoyant son propre Fils dans une condition semblable à la chair du péché, en rapport avec le péché, a condamné le péché dans la chair, 4 tpour que la justice requise par la loi soit accomplie en nous qui marchons, non selon la chair, mais selon l’Esprit. 5 tEn effet, ceux qui sont sous l’emprise de la chair s’accordent aux tendances de la chair, tandis que ceux qui sont sous l’emprise de l’Esprit s’accordent aux tendances de l’Esprit. 6 tOr la chair tend à la mort ; l’Esprit, lui, tend à la vie et à la paix. 7 tCar la chair tend à s’ériger en ennemie de Dieu, parce qu’elle ne se soumet pas à la loi de Dieu : elle en est même incapable.
8 tCeux qui sont sous l’empire de la chair ne peuvent plaire à Dieu.
9 tQuant à vous, vous n’êtes pas sous l’empire de la chair, mais sous celui de l’Esprit, s’il est vrai que l’Esprit de Dieu habite en vous. Et si quelqu’un n’a pas l’Esprit du Christ, il ne lui appartient pas. 10 tOr si le Christ est en vous, le corps, il est vrai, est mort à cause du péché, mais l’Esprit est vie à cause de la justice.
11 tEt si l’Esprit de celui qui a réveillé Jésus d’entre les morts habite en vous, celui qui a réveillé le Christ d’entre les morts fera aussi vivre vos corps mortels par son Esprit qui habite en vous.
12 tAinsi donc, mes frères, nous sommes bien débiteurs, mais non pas envers la chair – pas pour vivre selon la chair. 13 tEn effet, si vous vivez selon la chair, vous allez mourir ; mais si par l’Esprit vous faites mourir les agissements du corps, vous vivrez. 14 tCar tous ceux qui sont conduits par l’Esprit de Dieu sont fils de Dieu. 15 tEn effet, vous n’avez pas reçu un esprit d’esclavage, qui ramène à la crainte, mais vous avez reçu un Esprit d’adoption filiale, par lequel nous crions :Abba ! – Père ! 16 tL’Esprit lui-même rend témoignage à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu.
17 tOr si nous sommes enfants, nous sommes aussi héritiers : héritiers de Dieu, et cohéritiers du Christ, s’il est vrai que nous souffrons avec lui pour être aussi glorifiés avec lui.La gloire à venir
18 tJ’estime en effet qu’il n’y a pas de commune mesure entre les souffrances du temps présent et la gloire qui va être révélée en nous. 19 tCar la création attend avec impatience la révélation des fils de Dieu. 20 tEn effet, la création a été soumise à la futilité – non pas de son propre gré, mais à cause de celui qui l’y a soumise – avec une espérance : 21 tcette même création sera libérée de l’esclavage du périssable pour avoir part à la liberté glorieuse des enfants de Dieu. 22 tOr nous savons que, jusqu’à ce jour, la création tout entière soupire et souffre les douleurs de l’accouchement. 23 tBien plus, nous aussi, qui avons les prémices de l’Esprit, nous aussi nous soupirons en nous-mêmes, en attendant l’adoption filiale, la rédemption de notre corps. 24 tCar c’est dans l’espérance que nous avons été sauvés. Or l’espérance qu’on voit n’est plus une espérance : ce qu’on voit, peut-on l’espérer encore ?
25 tMais si nous espérons ce que nous ne voyons pas, nous l’attendons avec persévérance.
26 tDe même aussi l’Esprit vient au secours de notre faiblesse, car nous ne savons pas ce qu’il convient de demander dans nos prières. Mais l’Esprit lui-même intercède par des soupirs inexprimables ;
27 tet celui qui sonde les cœurs sait à quoi tend l’Esprit : c’est selon Dieu qu’il intercède en faveur des saints.
28 tNous savons, du reste, que tout coopère pour le bien de ceux qui aiment Dieu, de ceux qui sont appelés selon son projet. 29 tCar ceux qu’il a connus d’avance, il les a aussi destinés d’avance à être configurés à l’image de son Fils, pour qu’il soit le premier-né d’une multitude de frères.
30 tEt ceux qu’il a destinés d’avance, il les a aussi appelés ; ceux qu’il a appelés, il les a aussi justifiés ; et ceux qu’il a justifiés, il les a aussi glorifiés.L’amour de Dieu victorieux
31 tQue dirons-nous donc à ce sujet ? Si Dieu est pour nous, qui sera contre nous ? 32 tLui qui n’a pas épargné son propre Fils, mais qui l’a livré pour nous tous, comment ne nous donnera-t-il pas aussi tout avec lui, par grâce ? 33 tQui accusera ceux que Dieu a choisis ? C’est Dieu qui justifie ! 34 tQui condamnera ? C’est Jésus-Christ qui est mort ! Bien plus, il s’est réveillé, il est à la droite de Dieu, et il intercède pour nous ! 35 tQui nous séparera de l’amour du Christ ? La détresse, l’angoisse, la persécution, la faim, le dénuement, le péril, ou l’épée ?
36 tAinsi qu’il est écrit :
A cause de toi, on nous met à mort constamment.
On nous considère comme des moutons qu’on égorge.
37 tMais dans toutes ces choses, nous sommes plus que vainqueurs par celui qui nous a aimés. 38 tCar je suis persuadé que ni mort, ni vie, ni anges, ni principats, ni présent, ni avenir, ni puissances, 39 tni hauteur, ni profondeur, ni aucune autre création ne pourra nous séparer de l’amour de Dieu en Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur.
