Galatians 5

1  IN [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off].2  Notice, it is I, Paul, who tells you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no profit (advantage, avail) to you [for if you distrust Him, you can gain nothing from Him].3  I once more protest and testify to every man who receives circumcision that he is under obligation and bound to practice the whole of the Law and its ordinances.4  If you seek to be justified and declared righteous and to be given a right standing with God through the Law, you are brought to nothing and so separated (severed) from Christ. You have fallen away from grace (from God’s gracious favor and unmerited blessing).5  For we, [not relying on the Law but] through the [Holy] Spirit’s [help], by faith anticipate and wait for the blessing and good for which our righteousness and right standing with God [our conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action, causes us] to hope.6  For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love.7  You were running the race nobly. Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from) your heeding and following the Truth?8  This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ].9  A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].10  [For my part] I have confidence [toward you] in the Lord that you will take no contrary view of the matter but will come to think with me. But he who is unsettling you, whoever he is, will have to bear the penalty.11  But, brethren, if I still preach circumcision [as some accuse me of doing, as necessary to salvation], why am I still suffering persecution? In that case the cross has ceased to be a stumbling block and is made meaningless (done away).12  I wish those who unsettle and confuse you would [go all the way and] cut themselves off!13  For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another.14  For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is complied with in the one precept, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. 15  But if you bite and devour one another [in partisan strife], be careful that you [and your whole fellowship] are not consumed by one another.16  But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).17  For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do.18  But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.19  Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,20  Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),21  Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.22  But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,23  Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].24  And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires.25  If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]26  Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another.

갈라디아서 5

그리스도께서 우리를 해방시키심

1 그리스도께서 우리를 해방시켜 자유의 몸이 되게 하셨으니 여러분은 굳게 서서 다시는 종노릇 하지 마십시오.

2 나 바울이 하는 말을 잘 들으십시오. 만일 여러분이 할례를 받는다면 그리스도께서는 여러분에게 아무 소용이 없습니다.

3 내가 다시 말하지만 할례를 받는 모든 사람은 율법 전체를 지켜야 할 의무가 있습니다.

4 여러분이 율법을 지켜서 의롭다는 인정을 받으려고 한다면 여러분은 이미 그리스도와의 관계를 끊고 하나님의 은혜에서 떨어진 사람입니다.

5 그러나 우리는 성령님을 통해 믿음으로 의롭게 되기를 바라는 희망을 가지고 삽니다.

6 그리스도 예수님 안에서는 할례를 받고 안 받는 것이 문제가 아니라 사랑으로 표현되는 믿음만이 중요합니다.

7 전에는 여러분이 2신앙 생활을 잘 했습니다. 그런데 누가 여러분을 가로막아 진리를 순종하지 못하게 했습니까?

8 그런 설득은 여러분을 부르신 하나님에게서 온 것이 아닙니다.

9 3한 사람이 잘못되면 여러분 전체가 영향을 받습니다.

10 나는 여러분이 다른 생각을 품지 않을 것을 주 안에서 확신합니다. 그러나 여러분을 혼란케 하는 사람은 누구든지 심판을 받을 것입니다.

11 형제 여러분, 내가 아직도 할례를 전하고 있다면 왜 핍박을 받겠습니까? 그것이 사실이라면 그리스도의 십자가가 걸려 넘어지게 하는 장애물이 되지 않을 것입니다.

12 할례를 주장하면서 혼란만 일으키는 사람들은 할례의 대상이 되는 그 지체를 아주 잘라 버리기를 바랍니다.

13 형제 여러분, 하나님께서는 자유를 주시려고 여러분을 부르셨습니다. 그러므로 육체의 욕망을 채우려고 여러분의 자유를 남용하지 말고 사랑으로 서로 섬기십시오.

14 모든 율법은 4“네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라”는 하나의 말씀으로 요약할 수 있습니다.

15 그러나 여러분이 서로 헐뜯고 해친다면 둘 다 멸망할 것입니다. 그렇게 되지 않도록 조심하십시오.

성령님과 육체의 욕망

16 그래서 내가 하는 말입니다만 여러분은 성령님의 인도를 따라 사십시오. 그러면 육체의 욕망을 채우려고 하지 않을 것입니다.

17 육체의 욕망과 성령님이 바라시는 것은 정반대입니다. 그러므로 이 둘은 서로 대적하여 여러분이 하고 싶은 일을 못하게 합니다.

18 그러나 여러분이 성령님의 인도를 받으면 율법의 지배를 받지 않습니다.

19 육체의 행위는 명백하게 드러나기 마련입니다. 이것은 음행과 더러움과 방탕과

20 우상 숭배와 마술과 원수 맺는 것과 다툼과 시기와 화내는 것과 당파심과 분열과 이단과

21 질투와 술주정과 흥청대며 먹고 마시는 것과 그리고 이와 같은 것들입니다. 내가 전에도 여러분에게 경고했지만 다시 경고합니다. 이런 생활을 일삼는 사람들은 결코 하나님의 나라를 상속받지 못할 것입니다.

22 그러나 성령님이 지배하는 생활에는 사랑과 기쁨과 평안과 인내와 친절과 선과 신실함과

23 온유와 절제의 열매가 맺힙니다. 이런 것을 막을 율법은 없는 것입니다.

24 예수 그리스도의 사람들은 육체와 함께 정욕과 욕심을 십자가에 못박았습니다.

25 만일 우리가 성령님을 따라 산다면 그분의 가르침을 실천해야 할 것입니다.

26 그러므로 우리는 5잘난 체하지 말고 서로 다투거나 미워하지 맙시다.
