Isaiah 14

1 For Jehovah will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the sojourner shall join himself with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.2 And the peoples shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for servants and for handmaids: and they shall take them captive whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.3 And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy trouble, and from the hard service wherein thou wast made to serve,4 that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!5 Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers;6 that smote the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.8 Yea, the fir-trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid low, no hewer is come up against us.9 Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.10 All they shall answer and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?11 Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and worms cover thee.12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations!13 And thou saidst in thy heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; and I will sit upon the mount of congregation, in the uttermost parts of the north;14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit.16 They that see thee shall gaze at thee, they shall consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;17 that made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; that let not loose his prisoners to their home?18 All the kings of the nations, all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house.19 But thou art cast forth away from thy sepulchre like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, that are thrust through with the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a dead body trodden under foot.20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, thou hast slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall not be named for ever.21 Prepare ye slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers, that they rise not up, and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities.22 And I will rise up against them, saith Jehovah of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son’s son, saith Jehovah.23 I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hosts.24 Jehovah of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:25 that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder.26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.27 For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?28 In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.29 Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.30 And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain.31 Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou art melted away, O Philistia, all of thee; for there cometh a smoke out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.32 What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of his people take refuge.

이사야서 14

1 주님께서 야곱을 불쌍하게 여기셔서, 이스라엘을 다시 한 번 선택하시고, 그들을 고향 땅에서 살게 하실 것이다. 그 때에 외국 사람들도 그들에게 와서, 야곱의 겨레와 함께 살 것이다.

2 여러 민족이 이스라엘 사람의 귀향을 도울 것이며, 이스라엘 백성은, 주님께서 주신 땅에서 외국 사람을 남종과 여종으로 부릴 것이다. 이스라엘은 자기들을 사로잡았던 자들을 사로잡고, 자기들을 억누르던 자들을 다스릴 것이다.

지하로 내려간 바빌론 왕

3 주님께서 너희에게서 고통과 불안을 없애 주시고, 강제노동에서 벗어나서 안식하게 하실 때에, 4 너희는 바빌론 왕을 조롱하는, 이런 노래를 부를 것이다. “웬일이냐, 폭군이 꼬꾸라지다니! t그의 분노가 그치다니!

5 주님께서 악한 통치자의 권세를 꺾으셨구나. 악한 통치자의 지팡이를 꺾으셨구나.

6 화를 내며 백성들을 억누르고, 또 억눌러 억압을 그칠 줄 모르더니, 정복한 민족들을 억압해도 막을 사람이 없더니,

7 마침내 온 세상이 안식과 평화를 누리게 되었구나. 모두들 기뻐하며 노래부른다.

8 향나무와 레바논의 백향목도 네가 망한 것을 보고 이르기를 ‘네가 엎어졌으니, 이제는 우리를 베러 올라올 자가 없겠구나’ 하며 기뻐한다.

9 땅 밑의 t스올이, 네가 오는 것을 반겨 맞으려고 들떠 있고, 죽어서 거기에 잠든 세상 모든 통치자의 망령을 깨우며, 한때 세상을 주름잡던 그 왕들을 깨운다.

10 그 망령들이 너에게 한 마디씩 할 것이다. ‘너도 별 수 없이 우리처럼 무력해졌구나. 우리와 똑같은 신세가 되었구나.’

11 너의 영화가 너의 거문고 소리와 함께 스올로 떨어졌으니, 구더기를 요로 깔고, 지렁이를 이불로 덮고 있구나!

12 웬일이냐, 너, 아침의 아들, 새벽별아, 네가 하늘에서 떨어지다니! 민족들을 짓밟아 맥도 못추게 하던 네가, 통나무처럼 찍혀서 땅바닥에 나뒹굴다니!

13 네가 평소에 늘 장담하더니 ‘내가 가장 높은 하늘로 올라가겠다. 하나님의 별들보다 더 높은 곳에 나의 보좌를 두고, 저 멀리 북쪽 끝에 있는 산 위에, 신들이 모여 있는 그 산 위에 자리잡고 앉겠다.

14 내가 저 구름 위에 올라가서, 가장 높으신 분과 같아지겠다’ 하더니,

15 그렇게 말하던 네가 스올로, 땅 밑 구덩이에서도 맨 밑바닥으로 떨어졌구나.

16 너를 보는 사람마다, 한때 왕노릇하던 너를 두고 생각에 잠길 것이다. ‘이 자가 바로 세상을 뒤흔들고, 여러 나라들을 떨게 하며,

17 땅을 황폐하게 만들며, 성읍을 파괴하며, 사로잡힌 사람들을 제 나라로 돌려보내지 않던 그 자인가?’ 할 것이다.

18 다른 나라의 왕들은 모두 화려한 무덤에 누워 있는데,

19 너는 무덤도 없이 t오물처럼 버려져, 칼에 찔려 죽은 군인들의 시체 더미 밑에 깔려 있다가, 지하 세계의 밑바닥으로 내려갈 것이다. 너의 시체를 사람들이 짓밟을 것이다.

20 네가 너의 나라를 황폐하게 하고, 너의 백성을 죽였으니, 너는 왕들과 함께 묻히지 못할 것이다. 너의 자손도 이 세상에서 살아 남지 못할 것이다.

21 사람들아, 조상들의 죄를 물어야 하니, 그 자손을 학살할 준비를 하여라. 그들이 일어나 땅을 차지하지 못하도록 막아라. 그들이 이 땅 위에 성읍의 기초를 놓지 못하도록 막아라.”

하나님께서 바빌론을 멸하실 것이다

22 만군의 주님께서 말씀하신다. “내가 일어나 바빌론을 치겠다. 내가 바빌론을 멸하겠다. 그 명성도 없애고, 살아 남아서 바빌론의 이름을 이어갈 자도 하나도 남기지 않고 멸종시키겠다.” 주님께서 하신 말씀이다.

23 “또 내가 그 도성 바빌론을 고슴도치의 거처가 되게 하고, 물웅덩이로 만들며, 멸망의 빗자루로 말끔히 쓸어 버리겠다. 만군의 주님께서 하신 말씀이다.”

하나님께서 앗시리아를 치실 것이다

24 만군의 주님께서 맹세하여 말씀하신다. “내가 계획한 것을 그대로 실행하며, 내가 뜻한 것을 그대로 이루겠다.

25 내가 나의 땅에서 앗시리아 사람들을 으스러뜨리고, 나의 산 위에서 그들을 밟아 버리겠다. 그들이 나의 백성에게 메운 멍에를 내가 벗겨 주겠다.” 그가 씌운 멍에가 그들에게서 벗겨지고 그가 지운 짐이 그들의 어깨에서 벗겨질 것이다.

26 이것이 주님께서 온 세계를 보시고 세우신 계획이다. 주님께서 모든 민족을 심판하시려고 팔을 펴셨다.

27 만군의 주님께서 계획하셨는데, 누가 감히 그것을 못하게 하겠느냐? 심판하시려고 팔을 펴셨는데, 누가 그 팔을 막겠느냐?

하나님께서 블레셋을 치실 것이다

28  아하스 왕이 죽던 해에 주님께서 다음과 같은 경고의 말씀을 하셨다. 29 “모든 블레셋 사람들아, 너를 치던 몽둥이가 부러졌다고 기뻐하지 말아라. 뱀이 죽은 자리에서 독사가 나오기도 하고, 그것이 낳은 알이, 날아다니는 불뱀이 되기도 한다.

30 나의 땅에서는 가난한 사람들이 배불리 먹고, 불쌍한 사람들이 평안히 누워 쉴 것이다. 그러나 내가 너희 블레셋 사람을 모조리 굶어 죽게 하고, 너희 가운데서 남은 자는 t내가 칼에 죽게 하겠다.”

31 성문아, 슬피 울어라! 성읍아, 울부짖어라! 너 블레셋아, 녹아 없어져라! 북쪽에서부터 강한 군대가 진군하여 올 것이니, 너희 군인 가운데서 그것을 피하여 벗어날 자가 없을 것이다.

32  블레셋 특사들에게는 무엇이라고 답변할 것인가? ‘주님께서 시온을 세우셨으니, 고통당하던 그의 백성이 그리로 피한다’ 하고 답변하여라.
