Isaiah 28

1 Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley of them that are overcome with wine!2 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one; as a tempest of hail, a destroying storm, as a tempest of mighty waters overflowing, will he cast down to the earth with the hand.3 The crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim shall be trodden under foot:4 and the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be as the first-ripe fig before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.5 In that day will Jehovah of hosts become a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people;6 and a spirit of justice to him that sitteth in judgment, and strength to them that turn back the battle at the gate.7 And even these reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they stagger with strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.9 Whom will he teach knowledge? and whom will he make to understand the message? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, there a little.11 Nay, but by men of strange lips and with another tongue will he speak to this people;12 to whom he said, This is the rest, give ye rest to him that is weary; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.13 Therefore shall the word of Jehovah be unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, there a little; that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.14 Wherefore hear the word of Jehovah, ye scoffers, that rule this people that is in Jerusalem:15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us; for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:16 therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner -stone of sure foundation: he that believeth shall not be in haste.17 And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plummet; and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding-place.18 And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.19 As often as it passeth through, it shall take you; for morning by morning shall it pass through, by day and by night: and it shall be nought but terror to understand the message.20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.21 For Jehovah will rise up as in mount Perazim, he will be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his strange work, and bring to pass his act, his strange act.22 Now therefore be ye not scoffers, lest your bonds be made strong; for a decree of destruction have I heard from the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, upon the whole earth.23 Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.24 Doth he that ploweth to sow plow continually? doth he continually open and harrow his ground?25 When he hath levelled the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and put in the wheat in rows, and the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in the border thereof?26 For his God doth instruct him aright, and doth teach him.27 For the fitches are not threshed with a sharp threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.28 Bread grain is ground; for he will not be always threshing it: and though the wheel of his cart and his horses scatter it, he doth not grind it.29 This also cometh forth from Jehovah of hosts, who is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom.

북왕국을 두고서 한 경고

1 술 취한 자, 에브라임의 교만한 면류관인 너 사마리아야, 너에게 재앙이 닥칠 것이다. 술에 빠진 주정꾼의 도성, 기름진 평야의 높은 언덕에, 화려한 왕관처럼 우뚝 솟은 사마리아야, 시들어 가는 꽃 같은 너에게 재앙이 닥칠 것이다.

2 주님께서 강하고 힘 있는 이를 보내신다. 그가 마치 쏟아지는 우박처럼, 파괴하는 광풍처럼, 거센 물결을 일으키는 폭풍우처럼, 너를 잡아 땅에 쓰러뜨리실 것이다.

3 술 취한 자, 에브라임의 교만한 면류관인 너 사마리아야, 네가 짓밟힐 것이다.

4 기름진 평야의 제일 윗자리에 화려하게 피어 있는 꽃과 같은 사마리아야, 시들어 가는 꽃과 같은 사마리아야, 너는 여름이 오기 전에 맨 먼저 익은 무화과와 같아서, 사람들이 너를 보자마자 얼른 따먹는구나.

5 그 날이 오면, 만군의 주님께서 친히 주님의 남은 백성에게 아름다운 면류관이 되시며, 영화로운 왕관이 되실 것이다.

6 주님께서는 재판관이 된 사람들에게 공평의 영을 주시고, 용사들에게는 성읍 문으로 쳐들어온 적을 막는 용기를 주실 것이다.

독한 술에 취한 예언자들

7  유다 사람이 포도주에 취하여 비틀거리고, 독한 술에 취하여 휘청거린다. 제사장과 예언자가 독한 술에 취하여 비틀거리고, 포도주 항아리에 빠졌다. 독한 술에 취하여 휘청거리니, 환상을 제대로 못 보며, 판결을 올바로 하지 못한다.

8 술상마다 토한 것이 가득하여, 더럽지 않은 곳이 없다.

9 제사장들이 나에게 빈정거린다. “저 자가 누구를 가르친다는 건가? 저 자의 말을 들어야 할 사람이 누구란 말인가? 젖뗀 아이들이나 가르치라고 하여라. 젖을 먹지 않는 어린 아이들이나 가르치라고 하여라.

10 저 자는 우리에게, t한 자 한 자, 한 절 한 절, 한 장 한 장 가르치려고 한다.”

11 그러므로 주님께서는 알아듣지 못할 말씨와 다른 나라 말로 이 백성을 가르치실 것이다.

12 주님께서 전에 백성에게 말씀하셨다. “이 곳은 평안히 쉴 곳이다. 고달픈 사람들은 편히 쉬어라. 이 곳은 평안히 쉴 곳이다.” 그러나 그들은 들으려 하지 않았다.

13 그래서 주님께서는 그들에게 말씀하신다. t“차브 라차브, 차브 라차브, 카브 라카브, 카브 라카브, 제에르 샴, 제에르 샴.” 그래서 그들이 가다가 뒤로 넘어져서 다치게 하시고, 덫에 걸려서 잡히게 하려 하신 것이다.

시온의 모퉁잇돌

14 그러므로 주님의 말씀을 들어라. 너희, 조롱하기를 좋아하는 자들아, 예루살렘에 사는 이 백성을 다스리는 지도자들아,

15 너희는 자랑하기를 “우리는 죽음과 언약을 맺었고 t 스올과 협약을 맺었다. 거짓말을 하여 위기를 모면할 수도 있고, 속임수를 써서 몸을 감출 수도 있으니, 재난이 닥쳐와도 우리에게는 절대로 미치지 않는다.”

16 그러므로 주 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “내가 시온에 주춧돌을 놓는다. 얼마나 견고한지 시험하여 본 돌이다. 이 귀한 돌을 모퉁이에 놓아서, 기초를 튼튼히 세울 것이니, 이것을 의지하는 사람은 불안하지 않을 것이다.

17 내가 공평으로 줄자를 삼고, 공의로 저울을 삼을 것이니, 거짓말로 위기를 모면한 사람은 우박이 휩쓸어 가고, 속임수로 몸을 감춘 사람은 물에 떠내려 갈 것이다.

18 그래서 죽음과 맺은 너희의 언약은 깨지고, t 스올과 맺은 너희의 협약은 파기될 것이다. 재앙이 닥쳐올 때에, 너희가 그것을 피하지 못하고, 꼼짝없이 당하고 말 것이다.

19 재난이 유행병처럼 퍼질 때에, 너희가 피하지 못할 것이다. 그 재난이 아침마다 너희를 치고, 밤낮을 가리지 않고 너희를 엄습할 것이다.” t이 말씀을 알아듣는 것이 오히려 두려움이 될 것이다.

20 너희는 마치 침대가 짧아서 다리를 펴지 못하는 것 같이 되고, 이불이 작아서 몸을 덮지 못하는 것 같이 될 것이다.

21 주님께서는 계획하신 일, 그 신기한 일을 하시려고, 브라심 산에서 싸우신 것처럼 싸우실 것이다. 작정하신 일, 그 신비한 일을 하시려고, 기브온 골짜기에서 진노하신 것처럼 진노하실 것이다.

22 그러니 너희는, 내가 경고할 때에 비웃지 말아라. 그렇게 하다가는 더욱더 궁지에 몰리고 말 것이다. 만군의 주님께서 온 세상을 멸하시기로 결정하셨다는 말씀을, 내가 들었다.

하나님의 지혜

23 너희는 귀를 기울여서, 나의 목소리를 들어라. 주의 깊게 내가 하는 말을 들어라.

24 씨를 뿌리려고 밭을 가는 농부가, 날마다 밭만 갈고 있겠느냐? 흙을 뒤집고 써레질만 하겠느냐?

25 밭을 고르고 나면, 소회향 씨를 뿌리거나 대회향 씨를 뿌리지 않겠느냐? 밀을 줄줄이 심고, 적당한 자리에 보리를 심지 않겠느냐? 밭 가장자리에는 귀리도 심지 않겠느냐?

26 농부에게 밭농사를 이렇게 짓도록 일러주시고 가르쳐 주신 분은, 바로 하나님이시다.

27 소회향을 도리깨로 쳐서 떨지 않는다. 대회향 위로는 수레바퀴를 굴리지 않는다. 소회향은 작대기로 가볍게 두드려서 떨고, 대회향도 막대기로 가볍게 두드려서 떤다.

28 사람이 곡식을 떨지만, 낟알이 바스러지도록 떨지는 않는다. 수레바퀴를 곡식 위에 굴릴 때에도, 말발굽이 그것을 으깨지는 않는다.

29 이것도 만군의 주님께서 가르쳐 주신 것이다. 주님의 모략은 기묘하며, 지혜는 끝없이 넓다.
