Isaiah 44

1 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant, and Israel, who I have chosen:2 Thus saith Jehovah that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob my servant; and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:4 and they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.5 One shall say, I am Jehovah’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto Jehovah, and surname himself by the name of Israel.6 Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare.8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have I not declared unto thee of old, and showed it? and ye are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.9 They that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity; and the things that they delight in shall not profit; and their own witnesses see not, nor know: that they may be put to shame.10 Who hath fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing?11 Behold, all his fellows shall be put to shame; and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they shall fear, they shall be put to shame together.12 The smith maketh an axe, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he drinketh no water, and is faint.13 The carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he shapeth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and shapeth it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house.14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the holm-tree and the oak, and strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest: he planteth a fir-tree, and the rain doth nourish it.15 Then shall it be for a man to burn; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread: yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire.17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.18 They know not, neither do they consider: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.19 And none calleth to mind, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?20 He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?21 Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.23 Sing, O ye heavens, for Jehovah hath done it; shout, ye lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.24 Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb: I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth (who is with me?);25 that frustrateth the signs of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;26 that confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith of Jerusalem, She shall be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and I will raise up the waste places thereof;27 that saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers;28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure, even saying of Jerusalem, She shall be built; and of the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

주님만이 하나님이시다

1 “그러나 나의 종 야곱아, 내가 택한 이스라엘아, 이제 너는 들어라.”

2 너를 지으신 분 네가 태어날 때부터 ‘내가 너를 도와주마’ 하신 주님께서 말씀하신다. “나의 종, 야곱아, 내가 택한 t여수룬아, 두려워하지 말아라.

3 내가 메마른 땅에 물을 주고 마른 땅에 시내가 흐르게 하듯이, 네 자손에게 내 영을 부어 주고, 네 후손에게 나의 복을 내리겠다.

4 그들은 마치 시냇물 가의 버들처럼, 풀처럼 무성하게 자랄 것이다.

5 그 때에는 ‘나는 주님의 것이다’ 하고 말하는 사람도 있고, ‘야곱’의 이름을 써서 그의 자손임을 자칭하는 사람도 있을 것이며, 팔에다가 ‘나는 주님의 것’이라고 쓰는 사람도 있을 것이며, ‘이스라엘 사람’이라고 불리는 것을 영광으로 여기는 사람도 있을 것이다.”

6  이스라엘의 왕이신 주, 이스라엘의 속량자이신 만군의 주님께서 말씀하신다. “t나는 시작이요, 마감이다. 나 밖에 다른 신이 없다.

7 누가 나처럼 선언할 수 있으며, 미래를 예고할 수 있느냐? 나를 누구와 견줄 수 있느냐? 만일 있다면, 내가 옛날 사람들에게 미래를 예고했듯이, 그들에게 다가올 일들을 미리 말하여 보라고 하여라.

8 너희는 떨지 말아라. 겁내지 말아라. 내가 예전부터 너희에게 이미 예고하여 주지 않았느냐? 나는 예고하였고, 너희는 이것을 증언할 나의 증인들이다. 나 밖에 다른 신이 또 있느냐? 다른 반석은 없다. 내가 전혀 아는 바 없다.”

우상숭배 조롱

9 우상을 만드는 자들은 모두 허망한 자들이다. 그들이 좋아하는 우상은 아무 쓸모가 없는 것들이다. 이런 우상을 신이라고 증언하는 자들은 눈이 먼 자들이요, 무지한 자들이니, 마침내 수치만 당할 뿐이다.

10 아무런 유익도 없는 신상을 만들고 무익한 우상을 부어 만드는 자가 누구냐?

11 그런 무리는 모두 수치를 당할 것이다. 대장장이들은 사람일 뿐이다. 그들을 모두 불러모아 법정에 세워라. 그들은 두려워 떨며, 수치만 당할 것이다.

12 철공은 그의 힘센 팔로 연장을 벼리고, 숯불에 달구어 메로 쳐서, 모양을 만든다. 이렇게 일을 하고 나면, 별 수 없이 시장하여 힘이 빠진다. 물을 마시지 않으면, 갈증으로 지친다.

13 목공은 줄을 늘여 나무를 재고, 석필로 줄을 긋고, 대패질을 하고, 걸음쇠로 줄을 긋는다. 그렇게 해서 사람의 아름다운 모습을 따라, 우상을 만들어 신전에 놓는다.

14 그는, 용도에 따라 숲에서 백향목을 찍어 오기도 하고, 삼나무와 상수리나무를 베어 오기도 한다. 그러나 그 나무들은 저절로 튼튼하게 자란 것이지, 그들이 키운 것이 아니다. 하늘에서 내리는 비를 머금고 자라는 것이지, 그들이 자라게 하는 것이 아니다.

15 이 나무는 사람들에게 땔감에 지나지 않는다. 목공 자신도 그것으로 몸을 따스하게 하고, 불을 피워 빵을 굽기도 한다. 그런데 그것으로 신상을 만들어서 그것에게 절하며, 그것으로 우상을 만들어서 그 앞에 엎드린다!

16 우상을 만드는 것과 꼭 같은 나무 반 토막으로는 불을 피우고, 그 불덩이 위에 고기를 구워 먹고, 그것으로 배를 불리며, 또 몸을 따스하게 하며 ‘아, 불을 보니 따뜻하다’ 하고 말한다.

17 불을 때고 남은 토막으로는 신상 곧 우상을 만들고, 그 앞에 엎드려 숭배하고, 그것에게 기도하며 ‘나의 신이여, 나를 구원하여 주십시오’ 하고 빈다.

18 백성이 알지도 못하고 깨닫지도 못하는 것은 그들의 눈이 가려져서 볼 수 없기 때문이며, 마음이 어두워져서 깨달을 수 없기 때문이다.

19 그런 사람에게는 생각도 없고 지식도 없고 총명도 없다. 고작 한다는 말이 ‘내가 그 나무의 반 토막으로는 불을 피워, 그 불덩이 위에 빵을 굽고 고기를 구워 먹었지. 불을 때고 남은 나무로는 가증한 우상을 만들었지. 이제 나는 그 나무 토막 앞에 절한다’ 하는구나.

20 타고 남은 재로나 배를 채우려는 자들, 그들은 어리석은 마음에 미혹되어서, 도움마저 받지 못한다. 손에 쥐고 있는 우상이 참 신이 아니라는 것을 받아들이려 하지 않는다.

창조자와 구원자이신 주님

21 “야곱아, 이런 일들을 기억하여 두어라. 이스라엘아, 너는 나의 종이다. 내가 너를 지었다. 너는 나의 종이다. 이스라엘아, 내가 너를 절대로 잊지 않겠다.

22 내가 너의 죄를, 짙은 구름을 거두듯 없애 버렸으며, 너의 죄를 안개처럼 사라지게 하였으니, 나에게로 돌아오너라. 내가 너를 구원하였다.”

23 주님께서 이런 일을 하셨으니, 하늘아, 기쁘게 노래하여라. 땅의 깊은 곳들아, 함성을 올려라. 산들아, 숲아, 그리고 그 속에 있는 모든 나무들아, 소리를 높여 노래하여라. 주님께서 야곱을 구원하심으로써, 주님께서 이스라엘을 구원하심으로써, 영광을 나타내셨다.

24 너의 구원자, 너를 모태에서 만드신 주님께서 말씀하신다. “내가 바로 만물을 창조한 주다. 나와 함께 한 이가 없이, 나 혼자서 하늘을 폈으며, 땅도 나 홀로 넓혔다.”

25 하나님께서는 거짓말하는 자들의 징조를 쓸모 없게 하시며, 점쟁이들을 혼란스럽게 만드시며, 지혜로운 자들을 물리쳐서 그들의 지식을 어리석게 하신다.

26 하나님께서는 당신의 종이 한 말을 이루어지게 하시며, 당신의 사자들이 계획한 것을 이루어지게 하시며, 예루살렘을 보시고는 ‘여기에 사람이 살 것이다’ 하시며, 유다의 성읍들을 보시고는 ‘이 성읍들이 재건될 것이다. 내가 그 허물어진 곳들을 다시 세우겠다’ 하신다.

27 하나님께서는 깊은 물을 보시고는 ‘말라라. 내가 너의 강물을 모두 마르게 하겠다’ 하시며,

28  고레스를 보시고는 ‘너는 내가 세운 목자다. 나의 뜻을 모두 네가 이룰 것이다’ 하시며, 예루살렘을 보시고는 ‘네가 재건될 것이다’ 하시며, 성전을 보시고는 ‘너의 기초가 놓일 것이다’ 하신다.
