Isaiah 51

1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek Jehovah: look unto the rock whence ye were hewn, and to the hold of the pit whence ye were digged.2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.3 For Jehovah hath comforted Zion; he hath comforted all her waste places, and hath made her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.4 Attend unto me, O my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall go forth from me, and I will establish my justice for a light of the peoples.5 My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the peoples; the isles shall wait for me, and on mine arm shall they trust.6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye dismayed at their revilings.8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool; but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation unto all generations.9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster?10 Is it not thou that driedst up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that madest the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over?11 And the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraid of man that shall die, and of the son of man that shall be made as grass;13 and hast forgotten Jehovah thy Maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fearest continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he maketh ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?14 The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not die and go down into the pit, neither shall his bread fail.15 For I am Jehovah thy God, who stirreth up the sea, so that the waves thereof roar: Jehovah of hosts is his name.16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.17 Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, that hast drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it.18 There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand among all the sons that she hath brought up.19 These two things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword; how shall I comfort thee?20 Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of Jehovah, the rebuke of thy God.21 Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but now with wine:22 Thus saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; thou shalt no more drink it again:23 and I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee, that have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over; and thou hast laid thy back as the ground, and as the street, to them that go over.

위로의 말씀

1 구원을 받고자 하는 사람들아, 내가 하는 말에 귀를 기울여라. 도움을 받으려고 나 주를 찾는 사람들아, 내가 하는 말을 들어라. 저 바위를 보아라. 너희가 거기에서 떨어져 나왔다. 저 구덩이를 보아라. 너희가 거기에서 나왔다.

2 너희 조상 아브라함을 생각하여 보고, 너희를 낳아 준 사라를 생각하여 보아라. “내가 아브라함을 불렀을 때에는 자식이 없었다. 그러나 내가 그에게 은혜를 내려서, 그 자손을 수없이 많게 하였다.”

3 주님께서 시온을 위로하신다! 그 모든 황폐한 곳을 위로하신다. 주님께서 그 광야를 에덴처럼 만드시고, 그 사막을 주님의 동산처럼 만드실 때에, 그 안에 기쁨과 즐거움이 깃들며, 감사의 찬송과 기쁜 노랫소리가 깃들 것이다.

4 나의 백성아, 나에게 귀를 기울여라. 나의 백성아, 내 말을 귀담아 들어라. 법은 나에게로부터 비롯될 것이며, 나의 의는 만백성의 빛이 될 것이다.

5 나의 의가 빠르게 다가오고 있고, 나의 구원이 이미 나타났으니, 내가 능력으로 뭇 백성을 재판하겠다. 섬들이 나를 우러러 바라보며, 나의 능력을 의지할 것이다.

6 눈을 들어 하늘을 쳐다보아라. 그리고 땅을 내려다보아라. 하늘은 연기처럼 사라지고, 땅은 옷처럼 해어지며, 거기에 사는 사람들도 하루살이 같이 죽을 것이다. 그러나 내 구원은 영원하며, 내 의는 꺾이지 않을 것이다.

7 의를 아는 사람들아, 마음 속에 내 율법을 간직한 백성들아, 내가 하는 말을 들어라. 사람들이 비난하는 것을 두려워하지 말고 그들이 비방하는 것에 놀라지 말아라.

8 좀이 옷을 먹듯이 그들을 먹을 것이며, 벌레가 양털을 먹듯이 그들을 먹을 것이다. 그러나 나의 의는 영원하며, 나의 구원은 세세에 미칠 것이다.

9 깨어나십시오! 깨어나십시오! 힘으로 무장하십시오, 주님의 팔이여! 오래 전 옛날처럼 깨어나십시오! t 라합을 토막 내시고 용을 찌르시던 바로 그 팔이 아니십니까?

10 바다와 깊고 넓은 물을 말리시고, 바다의 깊은 곳을 길로 만드셔서, 속량받은 사람들을 건너가게 하신, 바로 그 팔이 아니십니까?

11 주님께 속량받은 사람들이 예루살렘으로 돌아올 것입니다. 그들이 기뻐 노래하며 시온에 이를 것입니다. 기쁨이 그들에게 영원히 머물고, 즐거움과 기쁨이 넘칠 것이니, 슬픔과 탄식이 사라질 것입니다.

12 “너희를 위로하는 이는 나, 바로 내가 아니냐? 그런데 죽을 인간을 두려워하며, 한갓 풀에 지나지 않는 사람의 아들을 두려워하는, 너는 누구냐?”

13 너희는 잊었다. 너희를 지으신 하나님, 하늘을 펴시고 땅을 세우신 주님을 잊었다. 압박자들이 너희를 멸망시키려고 한다 해서, 압박자들의 그 분노가 두려워서, 너희는 날마다 떨고 있다. 그러나 압박자들의 분노가 어디에 있느냐?

14 갇혀 있는 포로들이 이제 곧 풀려 난다. 그들은 오래오래 살 것이며, 먹거리가 모자라지도 않을 것이다.

15 “나는 주 너의 하나님이다. 바다에 물결을 일으키고, 거친 파도를 일으키는 하나님이니, 나의 이름은 만군의 주다.

16 내가 나의 말을 너의 입에 맡기고, 나의 손 그늘에 너를 숨겨 준다. 나는 하늘을 폈으며, 땅의 기초를 놓았고, 시온에게 ‘너는 나의 백성’이라고 말하였다.”

예루살렘의 고통이 끝나고

17 깨어라, 깨어라, 일어나거라, 예루살렘아! 너, 주님의 손에서 그 진노의 잔을 받아 마신 예루살렘아! 비틀거리게 하는 잔을, 네가 바닥까지 다 들이마셨다.

18 네가 낳은 모든 아들 가운데 너를 인도하여 줄 아들이 없을 것이며, 네가 기른 모든 아들 가운데 너의 손을 이끌어 줄 아들이 없을 것이다.

19 전쟁으로 땅은 황폐해지고 백성은 굶주려 죽었다. 이 두 가지 재난이 너에게 닥쳤으나, 누가 너를 두고 슬퍼하겠느냐? 폐허와 파괴, 기근과 칼뿐이니, t누가 너를 위로하겠느냐?

20 너의 자녀들은, 주님의 진노와 하나님의 책망을 하도 많이 받아서, 그물에 걸려 있는 영양처럼, 거리 모퉁이 모퉁이마다 쓰러져 있다.

21 고통받는 자야, 마치 포도주라도 마신 듯이 비틀거리는 자야, 이 말을 들어라.

22 너의 주, 그의 백성을 지키려고 싸우는 너의 하나님 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “내가 너의 손에서, 비틀거리게 하는 그 잔 곧 나의 진노의 잔을 거두었으니, 다시는 네가 그것을 마시지 않을 것이다.

23 이제 내가 그 잔을 너를 괴롭힌 자들의 손에 쥐어 주겠다. 그들은, 바로 너에게 ‘엎드려라, 우리가 딛고 건너가겠다’ 하고 말한 자들이다. 그래서 너는 그들더러 밟고 지나가라고 땅바닥에 엎드려서 길을 만들고, 허리를 펴고 엎드려서 그들이 너의 등을 밟고 다니게 하였다.”
