Jeremiah 1

1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:2 to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.4 Now the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.6 Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child.7 But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak.8 Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.9 Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth:10 see, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.11 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.12 Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.13 And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling caldron; and the face thereof is from the north.14 Then Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.15 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.16 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.17 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I dismay thee before them.18 For, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.

예레미야서 1

1 이 책에 기록되어 있는 것은 예레미야가 한 말이다. 그는 베냐민 땅 아나돗 마을의 제사장 출신인 힐기야의 아들이다. 2 아몬의 아들 요시야가 유다 왕이 되어 다스린 지 십삼 년이 되었을 때에, 주님께서 예레미야에게 말씀하셨다. 3 요시야의 아들 여호야김이 유다 왕으로 있을 때에도 주님께서 그에게 말씀하시고, 그 뒤에도 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 시드기야 제 십일년까지 주님께서 그에게 여러 번 말씀하셨다. 시드기야 왕 십일년, 그 해 다섯째 달에 예루살렘 주민이 포로로 잡혀 갔다.

예레미야의 소명

5 “내가 너를 모태에서 짓기도 전에 너를 선택하고, 네가 태어나기도 전에 너를 거룩하게 구별해서, 뭇 민족에게 보낼 예언자로 세웠다.”

6 내가 아뢰었다. “아닙니다. 주 나의 하나님, 저는 말을 잘 할 줄 모릅니다. 저는 아직 너무나 어립니다.”

7 그러나 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 아직 너무나 어리다고 말하지 말아라. 내가 너를 누구에게 보내든지 너는 그에게로 가고, 내가 너에게 무슨 명을 내리든지 너는 그대로 말하여라.

8 너는 그런 사람들을 두려워하지 말아라. 내가 늘 너와 함께 있으면서 보호해 주겠다. 나 주의 말이다.”

9 그런 다음에, 주님께서 손을 내밀어 내 입에 대시고, 내게 말씀하셨다. “내가 내 말을 네 입에 맡긴다.

10 똑똑히 보아라. 오늘 내가 뭇 민족과 나라들 위에 너를 세우고, 네가 그것들을 뽑으며 허물며, 멸망시키며 파괴하며, 세우며 심게 하였다.”

살구나무 가지와 끓는 가마솥 환상

11 주님께서 또 나에게 말씀하셨다. “예레미야야, 너는 무엇을 보고 있느냐?” 내가 대답하였다. “저는 t살구나무 가지를 보고 있습니다.” 12 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “네가 바로 보았다. 내가 한 말이 그대로 이루어지는 것을 내가 t지켜 보고 있다.”

13 주님께서 나에게 두 번째로 말씀하셨다. “너는 무엇을 보고 있느냐?” 내가 대답하였다. “물이 끓는 솥이 있습니다. 그 솥의 물이 북쪽에서부터 넘쳐 흐르고 있습니다.” 14 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “북쪽에서 재앙이 넘쳐 흘러 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람에게 내릴 것이다.

15 내가 북쪽에 있는 모든 나라의 백성들을 이 땅으로 불러들이겠다. 그러면 그들이 모두 몰려와서, 예루살렘 모든 성문 바로 앞에 자리를 잡고, 사방에서 그 성벽을 공격하고, 유다의 모든 성읍을 칠 것이다. 나 주의 말이다.

16 내가 이렇게 내 백성을 심판하는 까닭은, 그들이 나를 버리고 떠나서 다른 신들에게 향을 피우고, 손으로 우상을 만들어서 그것들을 숭배하는 죄를 저질렀기 때문이다.

17 그러므로 너는 이제 허리에 띠를 띠고 준비하여라. 일어나거라. 내가 너에게 명하는 모든 말을 그들에게 전하여라. 너는 그들을 두려워하지 말아라. 네가 그들을 두려워하면, 오히려 내가 너를 그들 앞에서 무서워 떨게 하겠다.

18 그러므로 내가 오늘 너를, 튼튼하게 방비된 성읍과 쇠기둥과 놋성벽으로 만들어서, 이 나라의 모든 사람, 곧 유다의 왕들과 관리들에게 맞서고, 제사장들에게 맞서고, 이 땅의 백성에게 맞서게 하겠다.

19 그들이 너에게 맞서서 덤벼들겠지만, 너를 이기지는 못할 것이다. 내가 너를 보호하려고 너와 함께 있기 때문이다. 나 주의 말이다.”
