Jeremiah 23

1 Woe unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith Jehovah.2 Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, against the shepherds that feed my people: Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them; behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith Jehovah.3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and multiply.4 And I will set up shepherds over them, who shall feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking, saith Jehovah.5 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness.7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that they shall no more say, As Jehovah liveth, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;8 but, As Jehovah liveth, who brought up and who led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries whither I had driven them. And they shall dwell in their own land.9 Concerning the prophets. My heart within me is broken, all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of Jehovah, and because of his holy words.10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up. And their course is evil, and their might is not right;11 for both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith Jehovah.12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein; for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith Jehovah.13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied by Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.14 In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies; and they strengthen the hands of evil-doers, so that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them become unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.15 Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Jerusalem is ungodliness gone forth into all the land.16 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they teach you vanity; they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of Jehovah.17 They say continually unto them that despise me, Jehovah hath said, Ye shall have peace; and unto every one that walketh in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil shall come upon you.18 For who hath stood in the council of Jehovah, that he should perceive and hear his word? who hath marked my word, and heard it?19 Behold, the tempest of Jehovah, even his wrath, is gone forth, yea, a whirling tempest: it shall burst upon the head of the wicked.20 The anger of Jehovah shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall understand it perfectly.21 I sent not these prophets, yet they ran: I spake not unto them, yet they prophesied.22 But if they had stood in my council, then had they caused my people to hear my words, and had turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.23 Am I a God at hand, saith Jehovah, and not a God afar off?24 Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith Jehovah. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith Jehovah.25 I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?27 that think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers forgat my name for Baal.28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith Jehovah.29 Is not my word like fire? saith Jehovah; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith Jehovah, that steal my words every one from his neighbor.31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith Jehovah, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy lying dreams, saith Jehovah, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting: yet I sent them not, nor commanded them; neither do they profit this people at all, saith Jehovah.33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? then shalt thou say unto them, What burden! I will cast you off, saith Jehovah.34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of Jehovah, I will even punish that man and his house.35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbor, and every one to his brother, What hath Jehovah answered? and, What hath Jehovah spoken?36 And the burden of Jehovah shall ye mention no more: for every man’s own word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of Jehovah of hosts our God.37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath Jehovah answered thee? and, What hath Jehovah spoken?38 But if ye say, The burden of Jehovah; therefore thus saith Jehovah: Because ye say this word, The burden of Jehovah, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of Jehovah;39 therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from my presence:40 and I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

미래의 왕 메시아

1 “내 목장의 양 떼를 죽이고 흩어 버린 목자들아, 너희는 저주를 받아라. 나 주의 말이다. 2 그러므로 나 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 내 백성을 돌보는 목자들에게 말한다. 너희는 내 양 떼를 흩어서 몰아내고, 그 양들을 돌보아 주지 아니하였다. 너희의 그 악한 행실을 내가 이제 벌하겠다. 나 주의 말이다. 3 이제는 내가 친히 내 양 떼 가운데서 남은 양들을 모으겠다. 내가 쫓아냈던 모든 나라에서 모아서, 다시 그들이 살던 목장으로 데려오겠다. 그러면 그들이 번성하여 수가 많아질 것이다. 4 내가 그들을 돌보아 줄 참다운 목자들을 세워 줄 것이니, 그들이 다시는 두려워하거나 무서워 떠는 일이 없을 것이며, 하나도 잃어버리는 일이 없을 것이다. 나 주의 말이다. 5 내가 다윗에게서 의로운 가지가 하나 돋아나게 할 그 날이 오고 있다. 나 주의 말이다. 그는 왕이 되어 슬기롭게 통치하면서, 세상에 공평과 정의를 실현할 것이다.

6 그 때가 오면 유다가 구원을 받을 것이며, 이스라엘이 안전한 거처가 될 것이다. 사람들이 그 이름을 ‘주님은 우리의 구원이시다’라고 부를 것이다.

7 그러므로 보아라, 그 날이 지금 오고 있다. 나 주의 말이다. 그 때에는 사람들이 다시는 ‘이스라엘 백성을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내신 주’의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하지 않고, 8 그 대신에 ‘이스라엘 집의 자손이 쫓겨가서 살던 북녘 땅과 그 밖의 모든 나라에서 그들을 이끌어 내신 주’의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세할 것이다. 그 때에는 그들이 고향 땅에서 살 것이다.”

예언자들에 대한 예레미야의 경고

10 진실로 이 땅에는 음행하는 자들이 가득 차 있다. 진실로 t이런 자들 때문에 땅이 슬퍼하며, 광야의 초장들은 t메마른다. 그들이 하는 일이 악하며, 그들이 힘쓰는 일도 옳지 못하다.

11 “예언자도 썩었고, 제사장도 썩었다. 심지어, 나는 그들이 나의 성전 안에서도, 악행을 저지르는 것을 보았다. 나 주의 말이다.

12 그러므로 그들의 길이 미끄럽고 캄캄한 곳이 될 것이며, 그들이 그 곳에서 떠밀려 넘어지게 될 것이다. 내가 정한 해가 되면, 그들에게 재앙을 내리겠다. 나 주의 말이다.

13 나는 일찍이 사마리아의 예언자들에게서 못마땅한 일들을 보았다. 그들은 바알의 이름으로 예언하여, 내 백성 이스라엘을 그릇된 길로 인도하였다.

14 그런데 이제 내가 예루살렘의 예언자들에게서 끔찍한 일들을 보았다. 그들은 간음을 하고 거짓말을 한다. 악행을 저지르는 자들을 도와서, 어느 누구도 죄악에서 떠날 수 없게 한다. 내가 보기에 그들은 모두 소돔 사람들과 같이 되었고, 예루살렘의 주민은 고모라 백성과 같이 되었다.”

15 “그러므로, 이런 예언자들을 두고, 나 만군의 주가 말한다. 내가 그들에게 쓴 쑥을 먹이며, 독을 탄 물을 마시게 하겠다. 죄악이 예루살렘의 예언자들에게서 솟아 나와서, 온 나라에 퍼졌기 때문이다.”

16 “나 만군의 주가 말한다. 스스로 예언자라고 하는 자들에게서 예언을 듣지 말아라. 그들은 헛된 말로 너희를 속이고 있다. 그들은 나 주의 입에서 나온 말을 전하는 것이 아니라, 자기들의 마음 속에서 나온 환상을 말할 뿐이다.

17 그들은 나 주의 말을 멸시하는 자들에게도 말하기를 ‘만사가 형통할 것이다. 주님의 말씀이다’ 한다. 제 고집대로 살아가는 모든 사람에게도 ‘너희에게는 어떠한 재앙도 내리지 않을 것이다!’ 하고 말한다.

18 그러나 그 거짓 예언자들 가운데서 누가 나 주의 회의에 들어와서, 나를 보았느냐? 누가 나의 말을 들었느냐? 누가 귀를 기울여 나의 말을 들었느냐?

19 보아라, 나 주의 분노가 폭풍처럼 터져 나온다. 회오리바람처럼 밀려와서 악인들의 머리를 후려칠 것이다.

20 나 주는 나의 마음 속에 뜻한 바를 시행하고 이룰 때까지, 분노를 풀지 않을 것이다. 마지막 날이 오면, 너희가 이것을 분명히 깨달을 것이다.”

21 “이런 예언자들은 내가 보내지 않았는데도 스스로 달려나갔으며, 내가 그들에게 말을 하지 않았는 데도 스스로 예언을 하였다.

22 그들이 나의 회의에 들어왔다면, 내 백성에게 나의 말을 들려주어서, 내 백성을 악한 생활과 악한 행실에서 돌아서게 할 수 있었을 것이다.”

23 “내가 가까운 곳의 하나님이며, 먼 곳의 하나님은 아닌 줄 아느냐? 나 주의 말이다.

24 사람이 제아무리 은밀한 곳에 숨는다고 하여도, 그는 내 눈에서 벗어날 수 없다. 나 주의 말이다. 내가 하늘과 땅 어디에나 있는 줄을 모르느냐?”

25 “나의 이름을 팔아 거짓말로 예언하는 예언자들이 있다. ‘내가 꿈에 보았다! 내가 꿈에 계시를 받았다!’ 하고 주장하는 말을 내가 들었다. 26 이 예언자들이 언제까지 거짓으로 예언을 하겠으며, 언제까지 자기들의 마음 속에서 꾸며낸 환상으로 거짓 예언을 하겠느냐? 27 그들은, 조상이 바알을 섬기며 내 이름을 잊었듯이, 서로 꿈 이야기를 주고받으면서, 내 백성이 내 이름을 잊어 버리도록 계략을 꾸미고 있다. 28 꿈을 꾼 예언자가 꿈 이야기를 하더라도, 내 말을 받은 예언자는 충실하게 내 말만 전하여라. 알곡과 쭉정이가 서로 무슨 상관이 있느냐? 나 주의 말이다. 29 내 말은 맹렬하게 타는 불이다. 바위를 부수는 망치다. 나 주의 말이다. 30 그러므로 보아라, 내 말을 도둑질이나 하는 이런 예언자들을, 내가 대적하겠다! 나 주의 말이다. 31 하나님의 말씀을 전한다고 제멋대로 혀를 놀리는 예언자들을, 내가 대적하겠다! 나 주의 말이다. 32 허황된 꿈들을 예언이라고 떠들어대는 자들은 내가 대적하겠다. 나 주의 말이다. 그들은 거짓말과 허풍으로 내 백성을 그릇된 길로 빠지게 하는 자들이다. 나는 절대로 그들을 보내지도 않았으며, 그들에게 예언을 하라고 명하지도 않았다. 그러므로 그들은 이 백성에게 아무런 유익도 끼칠 수 없는 자들이다. 나 주의 말이다.”
