Joel 1

1 The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.4 That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.9 The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah’s ministers, mourn.10 The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.11 Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished.12 The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men.13 Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.14 Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?17 The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered.18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.19 O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.20 Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

요엘서 1

1 이것은 주님께서 브두엘의 아들 요엘에게 하신 말씀이다.

농사를 망친 백성의 통곡

3 너희는 이것을 자녀들에게 말하고, 자녀들은 또 그들의 자녀들에게 말하게 하고, 그들은 또 그 다음 세대에 말하게 하여라.

4  t풀무치가 남긴 것은 메뚜기가 갉아 먹고, 메뚜기가 남긴 것은 누리가 썰어 먹고, 누리가 남긴 것은 황충이 말끔히 먹어 버렸다.

5 술을 즐기는 자들아, 깨어나서 울어라. 포도주를 좋아하는 자들아, 모두 다 통곡하여라. 포도 농사가 망하였으니, 새 술을 만들 포도가 없다.

6 셀 수 없이 많고 강한 메뚜기 군대가 우리의 땅을 공격하였다. 그들의 이빨은 사자의 이빨과 같고, 날카롭기가 암사자의 송곳니와 같다.

7 그들이 우리의 포도나무를 망쳐 놓았고, 우리의 무화과나무도 그루터기만 남겨 놓았다. 나무 껍질을 다 벗겨서 그 줄기가 모두 하얗게 말랐다.

8 백성아, 울어라! t약혼자를 잃고 슬퍼하는 t처녀처럼, 굵은 베 옷을 걸치고 울어라.

9 성전에 날마다 바치는 곡식제물도 동나고 부어 드리는 제물도 떨어지니, 주님을 모시는 제사장들이 탄식한다.

10 밭이 황폐하구나. 곡식이 다 죽고, 포도송이가 말라 쪼그라들고, 올리브 열매가 말라 비틀어지니, t땅이 통곡하는구나.

11 농부들아, 슬퍼하여라. 포도원 일꾼들아, 통곡하여라. 밀과 보리가 다 죽고, 밭 곡식이 모두 죽었다.

12 포도나무가 마르고, 무화과나무도 시들었다. 석류나무, 종려나무, 사과나무 할 것 없이, 밭에 있는 나무가 모두 말라 죽었다. 백성의 기쁨이 모두 사라졌다.

13 제사장들아, 굵은 베 옷을 입고 슬피 울어라. 제단 앞에서 섬기는 자들아, 통곡하여라. 하나님을 섬기는 제사장들아, 굵은 베 옷을 입고 성전으로 가서, 밤을 새워 통곡하여라. 너희가 날마다 아침 저녁으로 하나님의 성전에 바칠 곡식제물과 부어 드릴 제물이 떨어졌다.

14 거룩한 금식을 선포하고, 성회를 열어라. 장로들과 유다 땅에 사는 모든 백성을 불러 주 너희 하나님의 성전에 모으고, 주님께 부르짖어라.

15 슬프다, 그 날이여! 주님께서 심판하실 날이 다가왔다. t전능하신 분께서 보내신 바로 그 파멸의 날이 다가왔다.

16 곡식이라고는 구경조차 할 수 없다. 우리 하나님의 성전에는 기쁨도 즐거움도 없다.

17 씨앗이 흙덩이 속에서 모두 말라 죽고, 광마다 텅텅 비고, 가물어, 거두어들일 곡식이 없어서, 창고는 폐허가 된다.

18 풀밭이 없어, 가축들이 울부짖고, 소 떼가 정신없이 헤매며, 양 떼도 괴로워한다.

19 “주님, 제가 주님께 부르짖습니다. 불볕에 광야의 풀이 모두 타 죽고, 들의 나무가 이글거리는 불꽃에 모두 타 버렸습니다.

20 시내에도 물이 마르고 광야의 초원이 다 말라서, 들짐승도 주님께 부르짖습니다.”
