Joshua 1
1 Now it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, to you have I given it, as I spake unto Moses.4 From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.6 Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.7 Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest.8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,11 Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah your God giveth you to possess it.
12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, saying, Jehovah your God giveth you rest, and will give you this land.14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall abide in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but ye shall pass over before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them;15 until Jehovah have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which Jehovah your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising.16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us we will go.17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only Jehovah thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.18 Whosoever he be that shall rebel against thy commandment, and shall not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of good courage.

여호수아에게 가나안으로 가라고 하시다
1 주님의 종 모세가 죽은 뒤에, 주님께서, 모세를 보좌하던 눈의 아들 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. 2 “나의 종 모세가 죽었으니, 이제 너는 이스라엘 자손 곧 모든 백성과 함께 일어나, t요단 강을 건너서, 내가 그들에게 주는 땅으로 가거라. 3 내가 모세에게 말한 대로, 너희 발바닥이 닿는 곳은 어디든지 내가 너희에게 주겠다. 4 t광야에서부터 t레바논까지, t큰 강인 유프라테스 강에서부터 헷 사람의 땅을 지나 서쪽의 지중해까지, 모두 너희의 영토가 될 것이다. 5 네가 사는 날 동안 아무도 너의 앞길을 가로막지 못할 것이다. 내가 모세와 함께 하였던 것과 같이 너와 함께 하며, 너를 떠나지 아니하며, 버리지 아니하겠다. 6 굳세고 용감하여라. 내가 이 백성의 조상에게 주기로 맹세한 땅을, 이 백성에게 유산으로 물려줄 사람이 바로 너다. 7 오직 너는 크게 용기를 내어, 나의 종 모세가 너에게 지시한 모든 율법을 다 지키고, 오른쪽으로나 왼쪽으로 치우치지 않도록 하여라. 그러면 네가 어디를 가든지 성공할 것이다. 8 이 율법책의 말씀을 늘 읽고 밤낮으로 그것을 t공부하여, 이 율법책에 씌어진 대로, 모든 것을 성심껏 실천하여라. 그리하면 네가 가는 길이 순조로울 것이며, 네가 성공할 것이다. 9 내가 너에게 굳세고 용감하라고 명하지 않았느냐! 너는 두려워하거나 낙담하지 말아라. 네가 어디로 가든지, 너의 주, 나 하나님이 함께 있겠다.”
여호수아가 백성에게 명령을 내리다
10 그리하여 여호수아는 백성의 지도자들에게 명령을 내렸다. 11 “진을 두루 다니며 백성들에게 알리시오. 양식을 예비하고, 지금부터 사흘 안에 우리가 이 요단 강을 건너, 주 우리 하나님이 우리에게 주셔서 우리가 소유하게 될 땅으로 들어가, 그 땅을 차지할 것이라고 말하시오.”

여호수아는 르우벤 지파와 갓 지파와 므낫세 반쪽 지파에게 말하였다. 13 “주님의 종 모세가 당신들에게 이르기를, 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 t요단 강 동쪽의 이 땅을, 당신들이 편히 쉴 곳으로 주실 것이라고 하였으니, 당신들은 이 말을 기억하십시오. 14 당신들의 아내들과 어린 아이들과 집짐승들은, 모세가 당신들에게 준 t요단 강 동쪽 땅에 머물러 있게 하십시오. 그러나 당신들의 모든 용사들은 무장을 하고, 당신들의 동족들보다 앞서 건너가서, 그들을 도와주십시오. 15 주님께서 당신들과 마찬가지로 당신들 동기들에게도 편히 쉴 곳을 주실 때까지, 그리고 그들도 주 당신들의 하나님이 마련해 주신 땅을 차지할 때까지 그들을 도우십시오. 그런 다음에 당신들은 당신들의 소유지 곧 주님의 종 모세가 당신들에게 준 요단 강 동쪽 해 돋는 땅으로 돌아가서, 그 곳을 차지하도록 하십시오.”
16 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. “지금 우리에게 명령하신 것은 무엇이든지 다 하고, 어디로 보내시든지 그리로 가겠습니다. 17 우리는 모두, 모세에게 복종하였던 것과 같이, 모세의 뒤를 이어 우리의 지도자가 되신 분께도 복종하겠습니다. 오직 주 하나님이 모세와 함께 계셨던 것과 같이, 여호수아 어른과도 함께 계시기만 바랍니다. 18 여호수아 어른의 명령을 거역하고, 지시하는 말에 복종하지 않는 사람은, 누구든지 모두 죽임을 당할 것입니다. 여호수아 어른께서는 오직 굳세고 용감하시기를 바랍니다.”
