Proverbs 3

1  MY SON, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;2  For length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you.3  Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out all hatred and selfishness] and truth [shutting out all deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood] forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart. 4  So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight [or judgment] of God and man. 5  Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.6  In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.7  Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil. 8  It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones.9  Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income; 10  So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine. 11  My son, do not despise or shrink from the chastening of the Lord [His correction by punishment or by subjection to suffering or trial]; neither be weary of or impatient about or loathe or abhor His reproof, 12  For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.13  Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences],14  For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.15  Skillful and godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her. 16  Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor. 17  Her ways are highways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.18  She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.19  The Lord by skillful and godly Wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding He has established the heavens. 20  By His knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies distill the dew.21  My son, let them not escape from your sight, but keep sound and godly Wisdom and discretion,22  And they will be life to your inner self, and a gracious ornament to your neck (your outer self).23  Then you will walk in your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble. 24  When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.25  Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless],26  For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].27  Withhold not good from those to whom it is due [its rightful owners], when it is in the power of your hand to do it. 28  Do not say to your neighbor, Go, and come again; and tomorrow I will give it--when you have it with you. 29  Do not contrive or dig up or cultivate evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly and confidently beside you.30  Contend not with a man for no reason--when he has done you no wrong. 31  Do not resentfully envy and be jealous of an unscrupulous, grasping man, and choose none of his ways. 32  For the perverse are an abomination [extremely disgusting and detestable] to the Lord; but His confidential communion and secret counsel are with the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him). 33  The curse of the Lord is in and on the house of the wicked, but He declares blessed (joyful and favored with blessings) the home of the just and consistently righteous. 34  Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, yet He gives His undeserved favor to the low [in rank], the humble, and the afflicted. 35  The wise shall inherit glory (all honor and good) but shame is the highest rank conferred on [self-confident] fools.

잠언 3

젊은이들에게 주는 교훈

1 내 아들아, 나의 가르침을 잊지 말고 내 명령을 정성껏 지켜라.

2 그러면 네가 장수하고 평안을 누릴 것이다.

3 너는 사랑과 성실이 너를 떠나지 않게 하며 그것을 네 목에 매고 네 마음에 새겨라.

4 그러면 네가 하나님과 사람 앞에서 사랑과 신망을 얻을 것이다.

5 너는 마음을 다하여 여호와를 신뢰하고 네 지식을 의지하지 말아라.

6 너는 모든 일에 여호와를 인정하라. 그러면 그가 너에게 바른 길을 보이실 것이다.

7 스스로 지혜롭다고 생각하지 말아라. 너는 여호와를 두려워하고 악을 피하라.

8 이것이 너에게 좋은 약이 되어 2너의 몸과 마음을 건강하게 할 것이다.

9 네 재산과 네 모든 농산물의 첫열매로 여호와를 공경하라.

10 그러면 네 창고가 가득 차고 포도주통에 새 포도주가 넘칠 것이다.

11 내 아들아, 여호와의 징계를 가볍게 여기지 말며 그의 꾸지람을 언짢게 생각하지 말아라.

12 아버지가 자식이 잘되라고 꾸짖고 나무라는 것처럼 여호와께서도 자기가 사랑하는 사람을 꾸짖고 나무라신다.

13 지혜와 깨달음을 가진 자는 행복하다.

14 그것이 은이나 금보다 더 가치 있고 유익하기 때문이다.

15 지혜는 보석보다 더 귀한 것이므로 네가 갖고 싶어하는 그 어떤 것도 이것과 비교가 되지 않는다.

16 그 오른손에는 장수가 있고 그 왼손에는 부귀가 있으니

17 그 길은 즐거움과 평안의 길이다.

18 지혜는 그것을 얻은 자에게 생명 나무와도 같은 것이다. 그래서 지혜를 가진 자가 복이 있다.

19 여호와께서는 지혜로 땅의 기초를 놓으셨으며 3예지로 우주 공간을 펼치셨고

20 지식으로 깊은 물을 나누시고 공중에서 이슬이 내리게 하셨다.

21 내 아들아, 건전한 지혜와 분별력을 잘 간직하고 그것이 네게서 떠나지 않게 하라.

22 그러면 그것이 네 영혼의 생명이 되고 4네 삶을 아름답게 장식할 것이니

23 네가 네 길을 안전하게 갈 수 있고 발이 걸려 넘어지는 일도 없을 것이며

24 잠자리에 들 때 두려워하지 않고 단잠을 잘 수 있을 것이다.

25 너는 갑자기 밀어닥친 재앙이나 악인들의 멸망이 이를 때 두려워하지 말아라.

26 여호와는 네가 의지할 분이시니 너를 안전하게 지키실 것이다.

27 선을 베풀 능력이 있거든 그것을 필요로 하는 자에게 베풀기를 주저하지 말며

28 너에게 가진 것이 있으면 네 이웃에게 “갔다가 다시 오너라. 내일 주겠다”라고 말하지 말아라.

29 너를 믿고 사는 네 이웃을 해하려고 계획하지 말며

30 남이 너를 해하지 않았거든 이유 없이 다투지 말아라.

31 난폭한 자를 부러워하지 말며 그의 어떤 행동도 본받지 말아라.

32 여호와께서는 악한 자를 미워하시고 정직한 자와 친근히 하신다.

33 악인의 집에는 여호와의 저주가 있으나 의로운 자의 집에는 축복이 있다.

34 여호와는 거만한 자를 비웃으시고 겸손한 사람에게 은혜를 베푸신다.

35 지혜로운 자는 영광을 얻을 것이나 미련한 자는 수치를 당할 것이다.
