Proverbs 8

1  DOES NOT skillful and godly Wisdom cry out, and understanding raise her voice [in contrast to the loose woman]?2  On the top of the heights beside the way, where the paths meet, stands Wisdom [skillful and godly];3  At the gates at the entrance of the town, at the coming in at the doors, she cries out:4  To you, O men, I call, and my voice is directed to the sons of men.5  O you simple and thoughtless ones, understand prudence; you [self-confident] fools, be of an understanding heart. 6  Hear, for I will speak excellent and princely things; and the opening of my lips shall be for right things.7  For my mouth shall utter truth, and wrongdoing is detestable and loathsome to my lips.8  All the words of my mouth are righteous (upright and in right standing with God); there is nothing contrary to truth or crooked in them.9  They are all plain to him who understands [and opens his heart], and right to those who find knowledge [and live by it].10  Receive my instruction in preference to [striving for] silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,11  For skillful and godly Wisdom is better than rubies or pearls, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. 12  I, Wisdom [from God], make prudence my dwelling, and I find out knowledge and discretion. 13  The reverent fear and worshipful awe of the Lord [includes] the hatred of evil; pride, arrogance, the evil way, and perverted and twisted speech I hate.14  I have counsel and sound knowledge, I have understanding, I have might and power.15  By me kings reign and rulers decree justice. 16  By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges and governors of the earth.17  I love those who love me, and those who seek me early and diligently shall find me. 18  Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation, and right standing with God). 19  My fruit is better than gold, yes, than refined gold, and my increase than choice silver.20  I [Wisdom] walk in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation), in the midst of the paths of justice,21  That I may cause those who love me to inherit [true] riches and that I may fill their treasuries.22  The Lord formed and brought me [Wisdom] forth at the beginning of His way, before His acts of old.23  I [Wisdom] was inaugurated and ordained from everlasting, from the beginning, before ever the earth existed. 24  When there were no deeps, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains laden with water.25  Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth, 26  While as yet He had not made the land or the fields or the first of the dust of the earth.27  When He prepared the heavens, I [Wisdom] was there; when He drew a circle upon the face of the deep and stretched out the firmament over it,28  When He made firm the skies above, when He established the fountains of the deep,29  When He gave to the sea its limit and His decree that the waters should not transgress [across the boundaries set by] His command, when He appointed the foundations of the earth--30  Then I [Wisdom] was beside Him as a master and director of the work; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always, 31  Rejoicing in His inhabited earth and delighting in the sons of men. 32  Now therefore listen to me, O you sons; for blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who keep my ways. 33  Hear instruction and be wise, and do not refuse or neglect it.34  Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.35  For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.36  But he who misses me or sins against me wrongs and injures himself; all who hate me love and court death.

잠언 8

지혜의 호소

1 지혜가 부르지 않느냐? 총명이 소리를 높이지 않느냐?

2 지혜가 길가의 언덕과 사거리와

3 성문 입구와 여러 출입문 곁에 서서 이렇게 외친다.

4 “사람들아, 내가 너희를 부르며 온 인류에게 외쳐 말한다.

5 어리석은 자들아, 너희는 분별력을 얻어라. 미련한 자들아, 너희는 사리에 밝은 자가 되어라.

6 너희는 내 말을 들어라. 내가 아주 중요한 것을 너희에게 말하겠다. 내가 하는 말은 다 옳은 것이다.

7 내가 진실을 말하는 것은 내 입술이 악을 미워하기 때문이다.

8 내 말은 건전하고 참되며 하나도 잘못되었거나 악한 것이 없다.

9 내 말은 어느 정도의 분별력이나 지식을 가진 자라면 누구나 다 밝히 알 수 있는 평범한 것이다.

10 너희는 은보다 내 교훈을, 정금보다 지식을 택하라.

11 지혜는 진주보다 낫고 세상의 그 어떤 것과도 비교가 안 된다.

12 “나는 지혜이다. 나에게는 총명도 있고 지식과 분별력도 있다.

13 여호와를 두려워하는 것이 악을 미워하는 것이다. 나는 교만과 거만과 악한 행실과 거짓된 입술을 미워한다.

14 나에게는 조언할 말과 건전한 지식이 있으며 통찰력과 능력도 있다.

15 나를 통해서 왕들이 세상을 다스리고 통치자들이 의로운 법을 만들며

16 나를 통해서 군주들과 귀족들이 세상을 다스린다.

17 나를 사랑하는 자가 나의 사랑을 받을 것이며 나를 간절히 찾는 자가 나를 만날 것이다.

18 내게는 부귀도 있고 번영과 성공도 있다.

19 내가 주는 것은 순금이나 순은보다 낫다.

20 나는 의로운 길을 걸으며 공정한 길을 따르고

21 나를 사랑하는 자들에게 재물을 주어 그들의 창고가 차고 넘치게 할 것이다.

22 “여호와께서 우주를 창조하실 때 그 무엇보다 나를 먼저 만드셨으므로

23 나는 세상이 창조되기 전에 처음부터 있었다.

24 그 때는 아직 바다도 생기지 않았으며 큰 샘들도 없었다.

25 산과 언덕이 생기기 전에 내가 태어났으니

26 하나님이 아직 땅과 들과 티끌의 분자도 만들지 않았을 때이다.

27 그가 하늘을 만드시고 바다 표면에 수평선을 그으실 때에 내가 거기 있었으며

28 그가 하늘에 구름을 만드시고 바다의 샘들을 여시며

29 바닷물을 명령하여 그가 정한 한계를 넘지 못하게 하시고 또 땅의 기초를 놓으실 때에도 내가 거기 있었다.

30 그때 나는 그의 곁에서 2기능공 노릇을 하였으며 날마다 그의 기쁨이 되었고 언제나 그 앞에서 즐거워하였으며

31 그가 만든 세상을 보고 즐거워하고 그가 창조하신 인류를 보고 기뻐하였다.

32 “청년들아, 이제 내 말을 들어라. 나의 가르침을 좇는 자들이 복이 있다.

33 나의 교훈을 듣고 지혜를 얻어라. 그것을 버리지 말아라.

34 누구든지 내 말을 듣고 날마다 문 앞에서 나를 찾으며 문 밖에서 나를 기다리는 자는 복이 있다.

35 이것은 나를 얻는 자가 생명을 얻고 여호와께 은총을 받을 것이기 때문이다.

36 그러나 나를 얻지 못하는 자는 자기 자신을 해치는 자이며 나를 미워하는 자는 죽음을 사랑하는 자이다.”
