A quick glance in this text it seems, before us lies a long list of things to work on, to prepare ourselves for righteousness, but reading Paul, I know that is exactly not his preaching.. From my life I know, what good is anything of this flesh, I cannot work out anything of any good in any and all my members..I know one thing in this flesh and that is this...it stands face to face with gods law... So sometimes even, when we read passages that say do not do these things, our flesh wants to stride to obtain what is holy and good...I know gods law and it is the very list of perfection..it describes gods perfect character.. But whoa to me... Do I try to obtain this perfection? I have the knowledge of good and evil, do I not..I ate of that fruit remember... I know that god is perfect, and his law is righteous and holy and good.. So what do we do with it all..what do I do with Colossians 3-17.? Because my flesh is weak, it can never and will never with any amount of training please god..it simply cannot..our god makes this sin problem very simple..but our flesh fights against him..and creates a difficult thing..a situation even..iit says, i have so many problems in this vessel I will strangle these passions, I will refrain from watching those types of movies, or hanging out with those types of people, it says I will even turn my evil into good..and be righteous that way... Whoa to me in my pride to obtain something I am not.."what a wretched man am I". I am a sinner in this flesh.. But that is not what I am in Christ..I cannot do anything good aside from gods gracious gift to me in Christ.. Paul says these words in Colossians 3 just before his list of earthly desires appear..if then you have been raised with Christ seek the things that are above...for YOU have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in god..put to death therefore....the list appears..the list is of importance to us because it is this flesh..it is our desires and our passions..it is not even a complete list but a few of the things that us people are made up of, from the time we were born.. We only want to get rid of these things if god has crafted us a
new heart..one in which is after the will of god and not after the things of this world.. We inherited these disease like symptoms in Adam.. and it is our fall from gods presence.. Paul says to put them all away.. Now what strikes me to be most amazing is before col.3, just before in the last of chapter 2 Paul says...why as if you were still alive in the world...whoa stop..."pauls implying we are dead therefore", do you still submit to regulations, do not handle, do not taste, do not touch, I will even add a modern twist watch those types of movies or play those kinds of games or what have you...we seem even in Christian churches nowadays to try eagerly to strangle the flesh.. Paul continues..these indeed have a APPEARANCE of wisdom but...but they are of NO value in stopping the indulgence of the.....flesh. Wowzers, for the longest time i have been under the assumption that when i asked christ into my life, i was kinda working along side him..foolish me.. Does christ need an assistant? Does he need me to kill the things he has already died to..that is a relief.. So can i now just forget all about them and engage in the earthly desires my flesh loves to Consume? NO, how can I put to death therefore what is earthly in me? How can I please god? God is pleased in his son Jesus Christ. It is by Christ that I can have victory.. If the flesh is calling me to come and perfect the law of god by will.. It is calling a dead thing...my grandma died when I was 12.. I am 28 I think right now.. Anyway, she was a wise woman to say the least..I cannot call my grandma to assist me in life's problems, can I? Even if she was the wisest person in the world..what I mean is, we as Christians are faced with so many life issues..so many, we have a loving god that has a pretty strict set of laws to say the least, but they are perfect and holy and good. We want to do his will so much, because we love his ways... If a life issue has come your way know this... How can that issue come and call something that has already died.. You are dead..it is gods plan, this life...it is gods gift, Christ.. Your flesh cannot stride to do the will of god..it is dead... Your life energy has seized to exist. By gods grace you have been been crucified with Christ.. May god allow me to reckon this as life's struggles come calling me away.peace to you fellow servants of the lord..
