Exodus 40

1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,2 On the first day of the first month shalt thou rear up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.3 And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and thou shalt screen the ark with the veil.4 And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.5 And thou shalt set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.6 And thou shalt set the altar of burnt-offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.7 And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and shalt put water therein.8 And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the screen of the gate of the court.9 And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the furniture thereof: and it shall be holy.10 And thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt-offering, and all its vessels, and sanctify the altar: and the altar shall be most holy.11 And thou shalt anoint the laver and its base, and sanctify it.12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tent of meeting, and shalt wash them with water.13 And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments; and thou shalt anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.14 And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them;15 and thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office: and their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.16 Thus did Moses: according to all that Jehovah commanded him, so did he.

17 And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.18 And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up its pillars.19 And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as Jehovah commanded Moses.20 And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark:21 and he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony; as Jehovah commanded Moses.22 And he put the table in the tent of meeting, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the veil.23 And he set the bread in order upon it before Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses.24 And he put the candlestick in the tent of meeting, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.25 And he lighted the lamps before Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses.26 And he put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil:27 and he burnt thereon incense of sweet spices; as Jehovah commanded Moses.28 And he put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.29 And he set the altar of burnt-offering at the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered upon it the burnt-offering and the meal-offering; as Jehovah commanded Moses.30 And he set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water therein, wherewith to wash.31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat;32 when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as Jehovah commanded Moses.33 And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work.

34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle.35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle.36 And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys:37 but if the cloud was not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.38 For the cloud of Jehovah was upon the tabernacle by day, and there was fire therein by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

Exodus 40

De heerlijkheid van de HERE vult de tabernakel

1 Daarna zei de HERE tegen Mozes:2 ‘Op de eerste dag van de eerste maand moet u de tabernakel opzetten.3 Plaats de ark met de Tien Geboden erin en hang het gordijn ervoor, zodat de ark in het Heilige der Heiligen komt te staan.4 Breng daarna de tafel met alle toebehoren naar binnen, zet de kandelaar erbij en steek de lampen aan.5 Zet het gouden reukofferaltaar voor de ark en hang het gordijn voor de ingang van de tabernakel.6 Zet daarna het brandofferaltaar voor de ingang.7 Zet het wasvat tussen de tabernakel en het altaar en vul het met water.8 Zet de gordijnwanden van de voorhof op en breng het gordijn voor de ingang van de voorhof aan.9 Neem de zalfolie en sprenkel haar over de tabernakel en alles wat zich erin bevindt: alle toebehoren en stukken die daar staan, zodat ze worden geheiligd.10 Zalf ook het brandofferaltaar en zijn toebehoren, zodat het allerheiligst wordt.

11 Doe hetzelfde met het wasvat en zijn voetstuk, zodat ook dat heilig wordt.
12 Breng Aäron en zijn zonen bij de ingang van de tabernakel en was hen met water.13 Geef Aäron de heilige kleren aan, zalf en heilig hem, zodat hij voor Mij het priesterambt kan uitoefenen.14 Zijn zonen moeten hun onderkleden aandoen15 en daarna moeten zij worden gezalfd en geheiligd, zodat ook zij het priesterambt voor Mij kunnen uitoefenen. Hun zalving zal van geslacht tot geslacht blijven gelden, het is een eeuwig priesterschap.’

16 Mozes voerde al deze opdrachten van de HERE precies uit zoals de HERE hem had opgedragen.
17 Op de eerste dag van de eerste maand in het tweede jaar na de bevrijding uit Egypte, zette Mozes de tabernakel op.18 Hij plaatste de voetstukken, zette de wandpanelen overeind, bracht de dwarsbalken aan en zette de pilaren op hun plaatsen.

19 Hij legde het tentdoek over het geraamte en dekte het af met de twee dekkleden, precies zoals de HERE hem had opgedragen.
20 Hij legde de plaquettes met de Tien Geboden in de ark, schoof de draagstokken door de ringen en plaatste het verzoendeksel op de ark.

21 Daarna bracht hij de ark de tabernakel binnen, hing het gordijn ervoor en onttrok de ark zo aan het gezicht, zoals de HERE hem had opgedragen.
22 Hij zette de tafel in de tent aan de noordkant, buiten het gordijn dat voor de ark hing.

23 Daarop legde hij de toonbroden, zoals de HERE hem had opgedragen.
24 Hij zette de kandelaar naast de tafel, aan de zuidkant van de tabernakel.

25 Toen stak hij de lampen aan voor de HERE, precies volgens de instructies.
26 Het gouden altaar zette hij in de tabernakel voor het gordijn

27 en verbrandde er reukwerk van zoete kruiden op, precies zoals de HERE had bevolen.
28 Hij hing het gordijn voor de ingang van de tabernakel op,

29 zette het brandofferaltaar dichtbij de ingang en verbrandde er een brandoffer en een spijsoffer op, precies zoals de HERE had bevolen.
30 Daarna plaatste hij het wasvat tussen de tent en het altaar en vulde het met water, zodat de priesters het konden gebruiken om zich te wassen.31 Mozes, Aäron en diens zonen wasten daar hun handen en voeten.

32 Elke keer wanneer zij het altaar passeerden op weg naar de tabernakel, stopten zij bij het wasvat om zich te wassen. Ook dat was volgens de opdrachten die de HERE Mozes had gegeven.

33 Toen zette hij de voorhof op rondom de tabernakel en het altaar en hing het gordijn op voor de ingang van de voorhof. Zo legde Mozes de laatste hand aan het werk.
34 Toen bedekte de wolk de tent van de ontmoeting en de heerlijkheid van de HERE vulde de tabernakel.35 Mozes kon er niet binnengaan, want de wolk versperde hem de weg en de tabernakel was vervuld van de heerlijkheid van de HERE.36 Wanneer de wolk opsteeg van de tabernakel, braken de Israëlieten op en trokken verder, achter de wolk aan.37 Maar als de wolk op de tabernakel bleef, bleven ook de Israëlieten waar zij waren.

38 Overdag rustte de wolk op de tabernakel en ’s nachts brandde er vuur in de wolk, zodat alle Israëlieten het konden zien. Dit ging zo door, al de tijd dat zij onderweg waren.
