Micah 7

1 Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape gleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat; my soul desireth the first-ripe fig.2 The godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.3 Their hands are upon that which is evil to do it diligently; the prince asketh, and the judge is ready for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth the evil desire of his soul: thus they weave it together.4 The best of them is as a brier; the most upright is worse than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen, even thy visitation, is come; now shall be their perplexity.5 Trust ye not in a neighbor; put ye not confidence in a friend; keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.6 For the son dishonoreth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.7 But as for me, I will look unto Jehovah; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, Jehovah will be a light unto me.9 I will bear the indignation of Jehovah, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.10 Then mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is Jehovah thy God? Mine eyes shall see my desire upon her; now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.11 A day for building thy walls! in that day shall the decree be far removed.12 In that day shall they come unto thee from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt even to the River, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.13 Yet shall the land be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.14 Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thy heritage, which dwell solitarily, in the forest in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.15 As in the days of thy coming forth out of the land of Egypt will I show unto them marvellous things.16 The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hand upon their mouth; their ears shall be deaf.17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear unto Jehovah our God, and shall be afraid because of thee.18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness.19 He will again have compassion upon us; he will tread our iniquities under foot; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.20 Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the lovingkindness to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

Gods belofte van zegen

1-2 Wat vreselijk! Wat is het moeilijk een eerlijk mens te vinden! Zij zijn even schaars als druiven en vijgen na de oogst. Geen enkele tros, geen enkele vijg is overgebleven. De eerlijke mensen zijn van de aarde verdwenen, niet één rechtschapen man is achtergebleven. Er zijn alleen nog maar moordenaars over, die op hun eigen volksgenoot jacht maken.3 Zij staan altijd klaar om kwaad te doen. Bestuursfunctionarissen en rechters eisen steekpenningen. De rijke koopt hen om en zegt wie zij moeten ruïneren. Zo verdraaien zij de rechtspraak.

4 De beste van hen is zo stekelig als een distel, de meest rechtschapene onder hen is krommer en verwrongener dan een doornhaag. Maar de dag van het oordeel komt snel naderbij. De tijd voor straf is bijna aangebroken. Angst, schrik en verwarring zal u dan overvallen.
5 Vertrouw niemand meer, zelfs niet uw beste vriend, ook uw vrouw kunt u niet in vertrouwen nemen.

6 Want de zoon minacht zijn vader, de dochter komt in opstand tegen haar moeder en de schoondochter tegen haar schoonmoeder. Ja, er zullen zelfs vijanden onder uw huisgenoten zijn.
7 Maar ik zal uitzien naar de HERE. Van God zal ik mijn heil verwachten. Bij mijn God zal ik gehoor vinden.8 Wees niet blij over mij, mijn tegenstandster, want hoewel ik ben gevallen, zal ik toch weer opstaan! Al zit ik in het donker, de HERE zal voor mij een licht zijn.9 Ik zal de straf van de HERE geduldig dragen, want ik heb tegen Hem gezondigd. Uiteindelijk zal Hij mij verdedigen tegenover mijn vijanden en mij recht verschaffen. Hij zal mij van het donker naar het licht brengen en ik zal zien hoe Hij een rechtvaardig oordeel uitspreekt.

10 Zij die mij haat, zal het zien en zich schamen omdat zij eens spottend heeft gezegd: ‘Waar is nu de HERE, die God van u?’ Dan zal ik op haar neerzien, wanneer zij als modder op straat wordt vertrapt.
11 Volk van God, uw steden zullen eens worden herbouwd, maar veel groter en ruimer dan vroeger.12 Massa’s mensen uit verschillende landen zullen dan naar u toekomen, zij komen van Assyrië tot Egypte, van Egypte tot de Eufraat, van de Dode Zee tot de Middellandse Zee en van verre heuvels en bergen.

13 Maar eerst zal de aarde veranderen in een woestenij vanwege de zonden van haar bevolking.
14 God, kom, regeer over uw volk en weid uw kudde. Laat de mensen leven in vrede en welvaart. Laat hen genieten van de vruchtbare weiden van Basan en Gilead, net als vroeger.15 ‘Ja,’ antwoordt de HERE. ‘Net als vroeger toen u uit Egypte trok, zal Ik weer grote wonderen voor u doen.

16 De hele wereld zal het zien en zich schamen over haar geringe macht. Zij zal verstomd staan en doof zijn voor wat rondom haar gebeurt.’
17 Iedereen zal op zijn buik door het stof kruipen als een slang, als een worm uit zijn hol tevoorschijn komen. Zij zullen bevend van angst hun burchten verlaten om de HERE, onze God, te ontmoeten. Zij zullen diep ontzag voor U hebben.18 Waar is een God als U, die de zonden van de overlevenden van zijn volk vergeeft? U kunt niet voor eeuwig boos blijven op uw volk, want U houdt ervan genadig te zijn.19 U zult opnieuw medelijden met ons hebben. U zult onze zonden vertrappen onder uw voeten. Ja, U zult ze allemaal in de allerdiepste zee gooien.

20 U zult ons zegenen zoals U Jakob lang geleden hebt beloofd. En U zult ons uw goedheid tonen zoals U onze voorvader Abraham hebt toegezegd.
