Heaven vs. Sky

Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky or on earth or in the ocean under the earth.

Exodus 20:4

I've heard it often mentioned that Catholics are unbiblical for placing images of Jesus in their churches. The verse above is from the Contemporary English Version. It refers to idols made of what exists in the sky. It sounds like it could be the sun, birds, or even clouds. The New Internation Version tells us not to make images of what exists in Heaven. This could be what resides in the sky, but in addition, it could be Christ himself. I think that is where the rejection of Catholic images comes from. The way I see it, the original image of Jesus, hthat was used for painted or sculpted images, is only a approximate of what Christ looks like. They didn't have cameras to record his exact features. I'm not a Catholic myself, but in my opinion, the images should not be considered idols of our Lord.
