I can't choose or work for it

So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it. Romans 9:16 NLT

One definition of mercy is this, “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence” We can’t do anything to get God to show us His mercy. We cannot work for it or choose it like it was one of many choices we could make in this life. It is simply something that He decides and chooses to do on His own and because of His live for us. Not only is it by God’s choice it is something that we all need as we are all the offenders of His original plan for our lives.

This scripture reminds me to be grateful for God displaying His grace and compassion to me in my life even though I have offended Him in many ways. I t reminds me also that even though I have fallen short there is also nothing I can do to earn His mercy, He just gives it to me freely because He loves me.

God thank you for giving and showing me mercy in my life and not holding back or letting go based on my performance. I am so grateful that your mercy is shown brand new to me each day as I look to you for strength and guidance.
