1 Chronicles 12
1 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.2 They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow: they were of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin.3 The chief was Ahiezer; then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite,4 and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite,5 Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite,6 Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites,7 and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;9 Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,13 Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.14 These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host: he that was least was equal to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand.15 These are they that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
16 And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold unto David.17 And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
19 Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not; for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.20 As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands that were of Manasseh.21 And they helped David against the band of rovers: for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the host.22 For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great host, like the host of God.
23 And these are the numbers of the heads of them that were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of Jehovah.24 The children of Judah that bare shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.25 Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.26 Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.27 And Jehoiada was the leader of the house of Aaron; and with him were three thousand and seven hundred,28 and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father’s house twenty and two captains.29 And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.30 And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers’ houses.31 And of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king.32 And of the children of Issachar, men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.33 Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand, and that could order the battle array, and were not of double heart.34 And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.35 And of the Danites that could set the battle in array, twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.36 And of Asher, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, forty thousand.37 And on the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.
38 All these being men of war, that could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.39 And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brethren had made preparation for them.40 Moreover they that were nigh unto them, even as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victuals of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel.

Folket slutter opp om David
1 Dette er de som kom til David i Siklag den gang han ennå måtte holde seg borte av frykt for Saul, sønn av Kisj. De hørte til heltene som hjalp ham i krigen. t 2 De var væpnet med bue, og både med høyre og venstre hånd kunne de kaste stein med slynge og skyte piler med buen. De hørte til Sauls frender, av Benjamins stamme. 3 Det var høvdingen Akieser, Joasj, sønn av Sjema’a fra Gibea, Jesiel og Pelet, sønner av Asmavet, Berekja og Jehu fra Anatot; 4 Jisjmaja fra Gibeon, en av de tretti heltene og høvding over de tretti; Jeremia, Jahasiel, Johanan og Josabad fra Gedera; 5 Elusai, Jerimot, Bealja, Sjemarja og Sjefatja fra Haruf; 6 Elkana, Jisjia, Asarel, Joeser og Jasjobam av Korah-ætten;
7 Joela og Sebadja, sønner av Jeroham, fra Gedor.
8 Av Gad-sønnene gikk noen over til David da han var i fjellborgen i ødemarken, djerve krigere, menn som var vant med å kjempe, væpnet med skjold og spyd. De så ut som løver og var raske som gaseller på fjellene. 9 Den første var Eser, den andre Obadja, den tredje Eliab, 10 den fjerde Misjmanna, den femte Jeremia, 11 den sjette Attai, den sjuende Eliel; 12 den åttende Johanan, den niende Elsabad, 13 den tiende Jeremia og den ellevte Makbannai. 14 Disse hørte til Gad-sønnene og var høvdinger i hæren, den minste over hundre, den største over tusen.
15 Det var de som gikk over Jordan i den første måneden, da elven gikk langt over sine bredder og drev alle som bodde i dalen, på flukt, både mot øst og vest.
16 En gang kom noen av Benjamin- og Juda-sønnene til David i fjellborgen. 17 David gikk ut til dem, tok til orde og sa: «Kommer dere til meg i fredelig ærend og vil hjelpe meg, da er jeg villig til å gå i forbund med dere. Men kommer dere for å forråde meg til mine fiender, enda jeg ikke har gjort noen urett, så gi våre fedres Gud må se det og straffe dere.» t
18 Da kom Ånden over Amasai, som var høvding for de tretti, og han sa:
Vi er dine og følger deg, ¬du Isais sønn.
Måtte det gå vel med deg
og vel med dine hjelpesmenn!
For du får hjelp fra din Gud.
Da tok David imot dem og gjorde dem til høvdinger i flokken sin.
19 Også noen fra Manasse gikk over til David. Det var den gang han gikk med filisterne for å kjempe mot Saul. Han kom likevel ikke til å hjelpe dem. For fyrstene deres rådslo sammen og ble enige om å sende ham bort. «Det vil koste oss livet,» sa de, «om han går over til sin herre, Saul.» t 20 Da han så drog til Siklag, gikk noen fra Manasse over til ham. Det var Adna, Josabad, Jediael, Mikael, Josabad, Elihu og Silletai. De var høvdinger for de tusener som hørte til Manasse. 21 De hjalp David mot røverflokken; for de var djerve stridsmenn alle sammen, og de ble høvdinger i hæren. t
22 Dag etter dag kom det folk til David for å hjelpe ham. Til slutt ble det en stor hær, ja, en veldig hær.
23 Dette er tallet på de våpenføre menn som kom til David i Hebron for å føre kongedømmet over fra Saul til ham etter Herrens ord: t 24 av Juda-sønnene som bar skjold og spyd, 6 800 mann, væpnet til strid; 25 av Simeon-sønnene 7 100 djerve stridsmenn; 26 av Levi-sønnene 4 600, 27 dessuten Jojada, føreren for Arons ætt, med 3 700 mann 28 og Sadok, en ung og djerv stridsmann, med den ætten han hørte til, 22 høvdinger; 29 av Benjamin-sønnene, stammefrendene til Saul, 3 000 mann; inntil da hadde de fleste av dem trofast holdt seg til Sauls hus; 30 av Efraim-sønnene 20 800 djerve krigere, navngjetne menn i sine familier; 31 av den ene halvpart av Manasses stamme 18 000 mann som var oppnevnt til å dra av sted for å gjøre David til konge; 32 av Jissakars sønner, som forstod seg på tidene, så de visste hva Israel burde gjøre, 200 høvdinger og alle stammefrendene som adlød dem; 33 av Sebulon 50 000 stridsdyktige menn, rustet med alle slags våpen, en fylking fast bestemt på å hjelpe; 34 av Naftali 1 000 høvdinger og sammen med dem 37 000 mann med skjold og spyd; 35 av Dans sønner 28 600 mann, rustet til strid; 36 av Asjer 40 000 stridsdyktige menn, rustet til strid;
37 og fra den andre siden av Jordan, av Rubens sønner og Gads sønner og den andre halvparten av Manasses stamme, 120 000 mann, rustet til strid med alle slags våpen.
38 Alle disse krigerne kom i ordnet fylking og med fast beslutning til Hebron for å gjøre David til konge over hele Israel. Også alle de andre israelittene var enige om å gjøre David til konge. 39 De ble der hos David i tre dager. Og de spiste og drakk; for deres landsmenn hadde stelt til gjestebud for dem. 40 Også de som bodde i nærheten, ja, helt fra Jissakar, Sebulon og Naftali kom de med mat på esler, kameler, muldyr og okser: mel, fikenkaker, rosinkaker, vin og olje og storfe og småfe i mengde. For nå var det glede i Israel.
