1 Chronicles 29

1 And David the king said unto all the assembly, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Jehovah God.2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the brass for the things of brass, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, stones for inlaid work, and of divers colors, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.3 Moreover also, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, seeing that I have a treasure of mine own of gold and silver, I give it unto the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,4 even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, wherewith to overlay the walls of the houses;5 of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. Who then offereth willingly to consecrate himself this day unto Jehovah?

6 Then the princes of the fathers’ houses, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king’s work, offered willingly;7 and they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron a hundred thousand talents.8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of Jehovah, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to Jehovah: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10 Wherefore David blessed Jehovah before all the assembly; and David said, Blessed be thou, O Jehovah, the God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.11 Thine, O Jehovah, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Jehovah, and thou art exalted as head above all.12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou rulest over all; and in thy hand is power and might; and in thy hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.16 O Jehovah our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name cometh of thy hand, and is all thine own.17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, that are present here, offer willingly unto thee.18 O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee;19 and give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

20 And David said to all the assembly, Now bless Jehovah your God. And all the assembly blessed Jehovah, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped Jehovah, and the king.21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel,22 and did eat and drink before Jehovah on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto Jehovah to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of Jehovah as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.25 And Jehovah magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,30 with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.

Frivillige gaver til tempelbygget

1 Siden sa kong David til alle som var kommet sammen: Salomo, sønnen min, den eneste som Gud har utvalgt, er ung og veik, og arbeidet er stort. Dette prektige byggverket skal jo ikke være for mennesker, men for Herren Gud. t 2 Til huset for min Gud har jeg etter beste evne skaffet til veie gull til det som skal være av gull, sølv til det som skal være av sølv, bronse til det som skal være av bronse, jern til det som skal være av jern, og tre til det som skal være av tre. Jeg har også samlet karneol og steiner til innfatning, turkis og mosaikksteiner, alle slags edle steiner og marmor i mengde. t 3 Av kjærlighet til min Guds hus vil jeg også gi det jeg selv eier av gull og sølv, til bygningen, foruten alt jeg har samlet til det hellige hus, 4 tre tusen talenter gull, gull fra Ofir, og sju tusen talenter renset sølv til å kle veggene i templet med.

5 Så blir det gull og sølv til alt som skal være av gull og sølv, til all slags arbeid som kunstnerne skal utføre. Hvem er nå villig til å fylle sine hender med gaver og komme til Herren i dag?t
6 Da kom de villig med gaver, både lederne for familiene og Israels stammehøvdinger, tusenmannsførerne og hundremannsførerne og de som ledet arbeidet i kongens tjeneste. 7 Fem tusen talenter og ti tusen dareiker gull, ti tusen talenter sølv, atten tusen talenter bronse og hundre tusen talenter jern gav de til arbeidet på Guds hus. 8 Og de som eide edelstener, gav dem til skatten i Herrens hus, som Jehiel av Gersjon-ætten hadde tilsyn med.

9 Folket gledet seg over deres gavmildhet. For helhjertet kom de med sine frivillige gaver til Herren. Også kong David var meget glad for det.
10 I nærvær av hele forsamlingen priste David Herren og sa: Lovet være du, Herre, vår ættefar Israels Gud, fra evighet til evighet! 11 Herre, din er storheten, makten, herligheten, æren og høyheten, ja alt i himmelen og på jorden. Ditt er riket, Herre, og du er opphøyet og har alt i din makt. t 12 Rikdom og ære kommer fra deg, og du rår over alle ting. I din hånd er kraft og styrke. Alt har du makt til å gjøre stort og sterkt. t 13 Så takker vi deg nå, vår Gud, og priser ditt herlige navn. 14 For hvem er vel jeg, og hva er mitt folk? Skulle vi være i stand til å gi slike frivillige gaver? Nei, alt kommer fra deg; vi gir det vi har fått av deg. t 15 For ditt ansikt er vi fremmede og gjester som alle våre fedre. Våre dager på jorden er som en skygge og uten håp. t 16 Herre, vår Gud! All denne rikdommen vi har samlet for å bygge et hus for ditt hellige navn, den kommer fra deg, og alt er ditt. 17 Min Gud, jeg vet at du ransaker hjerter og gjerne vil ha oppriktighet. Av oppriktig hjerte og fri vilje har jeg gitt deg alt dette. Og nå har jeg sett med glede at ditt folk som er til stede her, villig gir deg sine gaver. t 18 Herre, du Abrahams, Isaks og Israels Gud, våre fedres Gud! La alltid ditt folk ha slike tanker i hjerte og sinn, og vend deres hjerte til deg!

19 Gi min sønn Salomo et helt hjerte, så han holder dine lover og bud og forskrifter, fullfører alt som skal gjøres, og reiser det prektige byggverket som jeg har gjort forberedelser til.

Salomo blir konge etter David

25 Hele Israel ble vitne til at Herren gjorde Salomo stor og mektig og gav ham en kongelig verdighet som ingen konge i Israel før ham hadde hatt.t
26 David, Isais sønn, hadde vært konge over hele Israel. 27 Hans regjeringstid var førti år. Sju år regjerte han i Hebron og trettitre år i Jerusalem. t

28 Han døde i høy alder og hadde nådd sitt mål både i alder, rikdom og ære. Sønnen Salomo ble konge etter ham.
29 Det som er å fortelle om kong David fra først til sist, det er skrevet opp i seeren Samuels krønike, i profeten Natans krønike og i seeren Gads krønike. 30 Der er det også fortalt om hele hans regjering og hans storverk og om alt det som den gang hendte ham og Israel og alle andre land og riker.
