1 Samuel 19

1 And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should slay David. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted much in David.2 And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to slay thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself in the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:3 and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee.4 And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:5 for he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Jehovah wrought a great victory for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice; wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?6 And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As Jehovah liveth, he shall not be put to death.7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as beforetime.

8 And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled before him.9 And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand.10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.11 And Saul sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be slain.12 So Michal let David down through the window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.13 And Michal took the teraphim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats’ hair at the head thereof, and covered it with the clothes.14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.15 And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.16 And when the messengers came in, behold, the teraphim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats’ hair at the head thereof.17 And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me thus, and let mine enemy go, so that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

18 Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.19 And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.20 And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Secu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.23 And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.24 And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Saul står David etter livet

1 En gang talte Saul med sin sønn Jonatan og med alle sine menn om å få David drept. Men Jonatan, Sauls sønn, holdt meget av David. 2 Derfor fortalte han dette til David og sa: «Min far Saul tenker på å drepe deg. Ta deg i vare i morgen tidlig! Finn deg et skjulested og gjem deg der! 3 Så vil jeg gå ut på marken hvor du er, og stå ved siden av far. Jeg vil tale med ham om deg, og merker jeg noe, skal jeg si deg det.» 4 Jonatan talte Davids sak hos sin far Saul. Han sa: «Kongen må ikke gjøre urett mot sin tjener David; for han har ikke gjort urett mot deg. Det han har gjort, har snarere vært til stort gagn for deg. 5 Han satte livet på spill og felte filisteren, og Herren lot hele Israel vinne en stor seier. Du så det selv og gledet deg. Hvorfor vil du da gjøre synd mot en uskyldig mann og drepe David uten grunn?» t 6 Saul hørte på Jonatan og sverget: «Så sant Herren lever, han skal ikke miste livet!»

7 Da ropte Jonatan på David og fortalte ham alt sammen. Jonatan førte David fram for Saul, og David ble hos ham som før.
8 Ufreden varte ved, og David drog ut og kjempet mot filisterne. Han felte en mengde av dem, og de flyktet for ham. 9 En dag kom det en ond ånd fra Herren over Saul mens han satt i huset sitt med spydet i hånden, og David spilte på harpen. t 10 Saul prøvde å støte spydet gjennom David og inn i veggen. Men David bøyde unna for Saul, og spydet fór i veggen. David flyktet og kom seg unna samme natt. 11 Saul sendte noen menn til Davids hus for å vokte på ham og drepe ham om morgenen. Men Mikal, Davids kone, varslet ham om det og sa: «Dersom du ikke berger deg unna i natt, blir du drept i morgen.» t 12 Så firte Mikal David ned fra vinduet, og han flyktet og kom seg bort. t 13 Etterpå tok hun husguden og la den i sengen. Hun la et teppe av geiteragg ved hodet på den og bredte sengeteppet over. t 14 Da Saul sendte folk for å hente David, sa hun: «Han er syk.» 15 Så sendte Saul de samme mennene for å se David og sa: «Bær ham hit til meg i sengen. Han skal dø.» 16 Men da mennene kom inn, fikk de se husguden i sengen og teppet av geiteragg ved hodet.

17 Saul sa til Mikal: «Hvorfor har du narret meg slik og hjulpet fienden min til å slippe unna?» Mikal svarte: «Han sa til meg: Hjelp meg å slippe bort, ellers dreper jeg deg.»
18 Da David hadde flyktet og var kommet unna, drog han til Samuel i Rama og fortalte ham alt det Saul hadde gjort mot ham. Så gikk han og Samuel til Nevajot og slo seg til der. 19 Da Saul fikk vite at David var i Nevajot ved Rama, 20 sendte han noen menn dit for å hente ham. Men da de fikk se profetflokken som var i profetisk henrykkelse, og Samuel som stod foran dem, kom Guds Ånd over Sauls utsendinger, så de ble grepet av profetisk henrykkelse, de også. 21 Saul fikk vite om dette og sendte andre menn. Men det gikk likedan med dem. Saul sendte folk dit for tredje gang, men de kom i profetisk henrykkelse, de også. t 22 Til slutt gikk han selv til Rama, og da han kom til den store brønnen i Seku, spurte han: «Hvor er Samuel og David?» De svarte: «I Nevajot ved Rama.» 23 Så gikk han dit, til Nevajot ved Rama. Men Guds Ånd kom over ham også, og han gikk i profetisk henrykkelse hele veien til Nevajot ved Rama. t 24 Saul rev av seg klærne, likesom de andre, og stod foran Samuel, grepet av profetisk henrykkelse, til han falt over ende. Og han ble liggende naken hele dagen og hele natten. Derfor sier folk: «Er også Saul blant profetene?»t
