1 Thessalonians 1
1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;4 knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election,5 how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.6 And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit;7 so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.8 For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything.9 For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God,10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivereth us from the wrath to come.

1 t t Paulus, Silvanus og Timoteus hilser menigheten i Tessalonika, i Gud, vår Far, og Herren Jesus Kristus. Nåde og fred være med dere!Paulus gleder seg over menigheten
2 t Vi takker alltid Gud for dere alle når vi husker på dere i våre bønner. 3 t For vår Gud og Fars ansikt husker vi stadig på hvordan dere er virksomme i tro, arbeider i kjærlighet og holder ut i håp til vår Herre Jesus Kristus. 4 t Dere er elsket av Gud, søsken, og vi vet at dere er utvalgt. 5 t For da vårt evangelium kom til dere, skjedde det ikke bare med ord, men også med kraft, ved Den hellige ånd og med full overbevisning. Dere vet selv hva vi gjorde hos dere; vi tenkte bare på dere. 6 t Og dere fulgte vårt og Herrens eget eksempel da dere under hard motgang tok imot Ordet med den glede som Den hellige ånd gir. 7 t Slik ble dere et forbilde for alle de troende i Makedonia og Akaia. 8 For fra dere har Herrens ord fått lyde vidt utover. Ikke bare i Makedonia og Akaia, men alle steder har de hørt om deres tro på Gud, så vi ikke behøver å si noe. 9 t De forteller selv hvordan vi ble mottatt hos dere, og hvordan dere vendte om til Gud fra avgudene for å tjene den levende og sanne Gud 10 t og vente på hans Sønn fra himmelen, han som Gud reiste opp fra de døde, Jesus som redder oss fra vreden som kommer.
