Acts 1
1 The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,2 until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:3 To whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:4 and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:5 For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.6 They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority.8 But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.10 And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;11 who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey off.13 And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.14 These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.15 And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons gathered together, about a hundred and twenty),16 Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.17 For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.18 (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.19 And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.
21 Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,22 beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.26 And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Løftet om Den hellige ånd
1 t t I min første bok, gode Teofilos, skrev jeg om alt det Jesus gjorde og lærte, fra han begynte 2 og helt til den dagen han ble tatt opp til himmelen. Da hadde han ved Den hellige ånd gitt sine befalinger til de apostler han hadde utvalgt. 3 t Etter å ha lidd døden sto han levende fram for dem med mange klare bevis på at han levde: I førti dager viste han seg for dem og talte om det som hører Guds rike til. 4 tt En gang han spiste sammen med dem, påla han dem dette: «Dere skal ikke forlate Jerusalem, men vente på det som Far har lovet, det som dere har hørt av meg.
5 tt For Johannes døpte med vann, men dere skal om noen få dager bli døpt med Den hellige ånd.»Jesus blir tatt opp til himmelen
6 t Mens de var sammen, spurte de ham: «Herre, er tiden nå kommet da du vil gjenreise riket for Israel?» 7 t Han svarte: «Det er ikke dere gitt å kjenne tider og stunder som Far har fastsatt av sin egen makt.
8 t Men dere skal få kraft når Den hellige ånd kommer over dere, og dere skal være mine vitner i Jerusalem og hele Judea, i Samaria og helt til jordens ende.»
9 t Da han hadde sagt dette, ble han løftet opp mens de så på, og en sky tok ham bort foran øynene deres. 10 t Som de nå stirret mot himmelen mens han dro bort, sto med ett to menn i hvite klær foran dem
11 tt og sa: «Galileere, hvorfor står dere og ser mot himmelen? Denne Jesus som ble tatt bort fra dere opp til himmelen, han skal komme igjen på samme måte som dere har sett ham fare opp til himmelen.»
12 t t Da vendte de tilbake til Jerusalem fra den høyden som heter Oljeberget og ligger nær Jerusalem, bare en sabbatsreise unna. 13 t Inne i byen gikk de opp på den salen hvor de pleide å holde til. Det var Peter og Johannes, Jakob og Andreas, Filip og Tomas, Bartolomeus og Matteus, Jakob, sønn av Alfeus, Simon seloten og Judas, sønn av Jakob.
14 t Alle disse holdt trofast sammen i bønn, sammen med noen kvinner og Maria, Jesu mor, og brødrene hans.En ny apostel
15 t En gang på denne tiden sto Peter fram blant søsknene. Det var omkring hundre og tjue mennesker samlet. 16 t «Mine søsken», sa han, «det måtte gå i oppfyllelse, det skriftordet som Den hellige ånd lot David si om Judas, han som viste vei for dem som grep Jesus. 17 t Han var regnet med blant oss og hadde fått samme tjeneste og oppdrag. 18 t For lønnen han fikk for ugjerningen sin, kjøpte han en åker. Men han falt hodestups så buken revnet og alle innvollene veltet ut. 19 Alle som bor i Jerusalem, fikk vite om dette. På sitt eget språk kalte de derfor åkeren Hakeldama, det betyr Blodåkeren. 20 t For det står skrevet i Salmenes bok: La bostedet hans ligge øde, la ingen bo der, og: La en annen overta hans oppdrag. 21 t Noen menn var sammen med oss hele den tiden Herren Jesus gikk inn og ut blant oss,
22 t helt fra begynnelsen, da han ble døpt av Johannes, og til den dagen han ble tatt fra oss opp til himmelen. Nå må en av disse sammen med oss være vitne om at han er stått opp.»
23 Og de stilte fram to: Josef, som ble kalt Barsabbas med tilnavnet Justus, og Mattias. 24 t Så ba de: «Herre, du som kjenner alles hjerter, vis oss hvem av disse to du har utvalgt 25 til å ta plassen etter Judas og overta den aposteltjenesten som han forlot da han gikk til sitt eget sted.» 26 tt De kastet lodd mellom dem, og loddet falt på Mattias. Fra nå av ble han regnet som apostel sammen med de elleve.
