Deuteronomy 12

1 These are the statutes and the ordinances which ye shall observe to do in the land which Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath given thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.2 Ye shall surely destroy all the places wherein the nations that ye shall dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:3 and ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods; and ye shall destroy their name out of that place.4 Ye shall not do so unto Jehovah your God.5 But unto the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come;6 and thither ye shall bring your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heave-offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill-offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock:7 and there ye shall eat before Jehovah your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee.8 Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes;9 for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.10 But when ye go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which Jehovah your God causeth you to inherit, and he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety;11 then it shall come to pass that to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, thither shall ye bring all that I command you: your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave-offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto Jehovah.12 And ye shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and the Levite that is within your gates, forasmuch as he hath no portion nor inheritance with you.13 Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt-offerings in every place that thou seest;14 but in the place which Jehovah shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.

15 Notwithstanding, thou mayest kill and eat flesh within all thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul, according to the blessing of Jehovah thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.16 Only ye shall not eat the blood; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.17 Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy grain, or of thy new wine, or of thine oil, or the firstlings of thy herd or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill-offerings, nor the heave-offering of thy hand;18 but thou shalt eat them before Jehovah thy God in the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt rejoice before Jehovah thy God in all that thou puttest thy hand unto.19 Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest in thy land.

20 When Jehovah thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul desireth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, after all the desire of thy soul.21 If the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose, to put his name there, be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd and of thy flock, which Jehovah hath given thee, as I have commanded thee; and thou mayest eat within thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul.22 Even as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so thou shalt eat thereof: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof alike.23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou shalt not eat the life with the flesh.24 Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.25 Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.26 Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which Jehovah shall choose:27 and thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of Jehovah thy God; and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of Jehovah thy God; and thou shalt eat the flesh.28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.

29 When Jehovah thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest in to dispossess them, and thou dispossessest them, and dwellest in their land;30 take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.31 Thou shalt not do so unto Jehovah thy God: for every abomination to Jehovah, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

32 What thing soever I command you, that shall ye observe to do: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

5. Mosebok 12

En bolig for Herrens navn

1 Dette er de forskriftene og lovene som dere trofast skal følge i det landet som Herren, dine fedres Gud, vil la deg innta, så lenge dere lever i landet.
2 Dere skal ødelegge alle de stedene der folkeslagene som dere driver bort, dyrker sine guder, på høye fjell og hauger og under hvert frodig tre.

3 t Dere skal rive ned altrene deres og slå i stykker steinstøttene, brenne opp Asjera-stolpene og hugge ned gudebildene, og dere skal utslette deres navn fra disse stedene.
4 Dere skal ikke dyrke Herren deres Gud på den måten. 5 tt Men dere skal søke til det stedet Herren deres Gud velger ut blant alle stammene deres til bolig for sitt navn. Dit skal du gå. 6 Og dit skal dere bringe brennofrene og slaktofrene deres, tienden og de gaver dere bærer fram, løfteofrene og de frivillige ofrene og de førstefødte dyr av storfeet og småfeet.

7 Og der skal dere holde måltid for Herren deres Guds ansikt, dere og deres hus, og glede dere over alt det deres hender har gjort, alt som Herren din Gud har velsignet deg med.
8 Dere skal ikke gjøre slik som vi her i dag. Nå gjør hver og en det han selv synes er rett. 9 Ennå er dere ikke kommet fram til hvilen, til den eiendom som Herren din Gud vil gi deg. 10 t Nå skal dere gå over Jordan og bosette dere i det landet som Herren deres Gud vil gi dere til eiendom. Han skal la dere finne hvile og få fred for alle fiender omkring, slik at dere bor trygt. 11 Da skal dere komme med alt det jeg pålegger dere, til det stedet som Herren deres Gud velger ut, og der han lar sitt navn bo: brennofrene og slaktofrene deres, tienden og gavene dere bærer fram, og alle de offer som dere selv har gitt Herren løfte om.

12 t Dere skal glede dere for Herren deres Guds ansikt, dere og sønnene og døtrene deres, slavene og slavekvinnene deres og levitten som bor i byene deres; han har jo ingen arv og del sammen med dere.
13  t Vokt deg så du ikke ofrer dine brennoffer på hvert sted du ser deg ut.

14 Bare på det stedet Herren velger seg ut i en av dine stammer, skal du ofre dine brennoffer, og der skal du gjøre alt det jeg pålegger deg.
15  t t Derimot kan du i alle byene dine slakte og spise kjøtt så mye du vil, alt etter den velsignelse som Herren din Gud gir deg. Både urene og rene kan spise av det, på samme måte som de spiser kjøttet av gasell og hjort.

16 t Men blodet skal dere ikke spise. Hell det ut på jorden som vann!
17 Hjemme i byene dine må du ikke spise tienden av korn, ny vin og fin olje, heller ikke de førstefødte dyrene av storfeet og småfeet ditt, de offer du selv har gitt løfte om, de frivillige offer eller de gaver du bærer fram. 18 t Men du skal spise dette for Herren din Guds ansikt, på det stedet Herren vil velge seg ut, både du og din sønn og din datter, din slave og din slavekvinne og levitten som bor i byene dine, og du skal glede deg for Herren din Guds ansikt over alt det dine hender har gjort.

19 t Vokt deg så du ikke forsømmer levitten så lenge du lever i landet ditt.
20 Når Herren din Gud utvider dine grenser slik han har lovet deg, og du sier: «Jeg vil spise kjøtt» fordi du har lyst på kjøtt, da kan du spise kjøtt så mye du vil. 21 Har du for lang vei til det stedet Herren din Gud vil velge seg ut for sitt navn, skal du gjøre slik jeg har pålagt deg. Du skal slakte av storfeet og småfeet som Herren gir deg, og spise det hjemme i byene dine, så mye du har lyst på. 22 Men spis det som en spiser kjøttet av gasell og hjort! Både urene og rene kan spise det. 23 t Pass bare på at du ikke spiser blodet! For blodet er livet, og du skal ikke spise livet sammen med kjøttet. 24 Du skal ikke spise blodet. Hell det ut på jorden som vann!

25 Du skal ikke spise det! Da skal det gå deg og dine etterkommere vel, for da gjør du det som er rett i Herrens øyne.
26 Bare løfteofrene dine og det hellige som du vil gi, skal du ta med deg til det stedet Herren vil velge seg ut. 27 Du skal legge brennofrene, både kjøttet og blodet, på alteret for Herren din Gud. Blodet fra slaktofrene dine skal helles ut på alteret for Herren din Gud, men kjøttet kan du spise.

28 Legg vinn på å adlyde alt det jeg pålegger deg! Da skal det gå deg og etterkommerne dine vel til alle tider, for da gjør du det som er godt og rett i Herren din Guds øyne.
29  Herren din Gud vil utrydde for deg de folkeslagene som du nå skal gå og ta landet fra. Når du slik har tatt landet fra dem og bosatt deg der, 30 t skal du vokte deg så du ikke blir lokket i en felle og etterligner dem, etter at de er utryddet for deg. Du skal ikke vende deg til gudene deres og si: «Hvordan dyrket disse folkeslagene gudene sine? Slik vil jeg også gjøre det.» 31 t Du skal ikke dyrke Herren din Gud slik! Alle de avskyelige gjerningene som Herren hater, gjør de for gudene sine. Til og med sønnene og døtrene sine brenner de i ilden for disse gudene. 32 Alt det jeg pålegger dere, skal dere trofast følge. Du skal ikke legge noe til og ikke trekke noe fra.
