Deuteronomy 30

1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither Jehovah thy God hath driven thee,2 and shalt return unto Jehovah thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul;3 that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee.4 If any of thine outcasts be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:5 and Jehovah thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.6 And Jehovah thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.7 And Jehovah thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, that persecuted thee.8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of Jehovah, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.9 And Jehovah thy God will make thee plenteous in all the work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good: for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;10 if thou shalt obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou turn unto Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.

11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off.12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;16 in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it.17 But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days in the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it.19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed;20 to love Jehovah thy God, to obey his voice, and to cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Herren vil samle folket

1  t Når alt dette kommer over deg, velsignelsen og forbannelsen som jeg har lagt fram for deg, og du tar det til deg i ditt hjerte ute blant alle folkeslagene som Herren din Gud har drevet deg bort til, 2 t og du så vender om til Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte og av hele din sjel og lyder hans røst i alt det jeg pålegger deg i dag, både du og dine barn, 3 t da skal Herren din Gud vende din skjebne og være barmhjertig mot deg. Herren din Gud vil igjen samle deg fra alle de folk han har spredt deg ut blant. 4 t Om du så er drevet bort til himmelens grense, skal Herren din Gud samle deg derfra, og derfra skal han hente deg.

5 t Herren din Gud vil føre deg til det landet som dine fedre inntok, og du skal innta det igjen. Han skal gjøre vel mot deg og gjøre deg mer tallrik enn fedrene dine.
6  t t Herren din Gud skal omskjære ditt hjerte og dine etterkommeres hjerte, så du elsker Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte og av hele din sjel, slik at du skal få leve. 7 Herren din Gud vil legge alle disse forbannelsene på dine fiender og på dem som hater og forfølger deg. 8 Da skal du vende om og lyde Herrens røst og holde alle hans bud som jeg gir deg i dag. 9 t Herren din Gud vil skjenke deg alt godt i overflod gjennom alt du gjør, gjennom frukten av ditt morsliv og frukten av din buskap og frukten av din åkerjord. For Herren vil igjen glede seg over deg til ditt beste, slik som han gledet seg over dine fedre,

10 så sant du lyder Herren din Guds røst og holder hans bud og forskrifter som er skrevet i denne lovboken, og så sant du vender om til Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte og hele din sjel.
11  t Disse budene som jeg gir deg i dag, er verken ufattelige eller langt borte. 12 t De er ikke i himmelen, så du må si: «Hvem vil fare opp til himmelen for oss og hente dem ned, så vi kan få høre dem og leve etter dem?» 13 De er heller ikke på den andre siden av havet, så du må si: «Hvem vil dra over havet for oss og hente dem, så vi kan høre dem og leve etter dem?»

14 Nei, ordet er deg helt nær, i din munn og i ditt hjerte, så du kan leve etter det.

Valget mellom liv og død

16 Gjør du som jeg pålegger deg i dag, så du elsker Herren din Gud og går på hans veier og holder hans bud, forskrifter og dommer, da skal du leve og bli tallrik. Herren din Gud skal velsigne deg i landet du går inn i og legger under deg.
17 Men om ditt hjerte vender seg bort og du ikke er lydig, men lar deg rive med så du bøyer deg og tilber andre guder og dyrker dem,

18 t da kunngjør jeg dere i dag at dere skal gå fullstendig til grunne. Dere skal ikke få leve lenge i det landet du går over Jordan for å innta.
19  t I dag tar jeg himmel og jord til vitne mot dere. Jeg har lagt fram for deg liv og død, velsignelse og forbannelse. Velg da livet, så du og dine etterkommere kan få leve. 20 t Du skal elske Herren din Gud, lyde hans røst og holde fast ved ham! Da skal du få leve og bo lenge i det landet som Herren med ed lovet å gi dine fedre, Abraham, Isak og Jakob.
