Genesis 13
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.3 And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai,4 unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.7 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen; for we are brethren.9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if thou take the right hand, then I will go to the left.10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.11 So Lot chose him all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly.
14 And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward:15 for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.18 And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto Jehovah.

1 Og Abram dro ut fra Egypt opp til sydlandet, han og hans kone, med alt det han eide. Og Lot var med ham. s
Lot forlater Abram
2 Abram var meget rik på buskap og på sølv og gull. s3 Og han dro i dagsreiser fra sydlandet helt til Betel, til det stedet hvor teltet hans hadde stått i begynnelsen, mellom Betel og Ai, 4 til det stedet hvor han hadde bygd et alter forrige gang. Der påkalte Abram Herrens navn. s
5 Men også Lot, som dro sammen med Abram, hadde småfe og storfe og telt. 6 Og landet kunne ikke romme dem, så de kunne bo sammen, for eiendommen deres var for stor til at de kunne bo sammen. 7 Det ble trette mellom dem som gjette Abrams kveg og dem som gjette for Lot. Kana’aneerne og ferisittene bodde den gang i landet. 8 Da sa Abram til Lot: Jeg ber deg, la det ikke være trette mellom meg og deg, og mellom gjeterne mine og gjeterne dine! Vi er jo brødre. 9 Ligger ikke hele landet åpent for deg? Jeg ber deg, skill deg fra meg! Hvis du tar til venstre, vil jeg dra til høyre. Hvis du tar til høyre, vil jeg dra til venstre.
10 Da løftet Lot sine øyne, og han så at hele Jordan-sletten like til Soar overalt var vannrik, som Herrens hage, som landet Egypt. Dette var før Herren ødela Sodoma og Gomorra. 11 Så valgte Lot for seg selv hele Jordan-sletten. Og Lot dro østover, og de skiltes fra hverandre. 12 Abram ble boende i Kana’ans land. Men Lot tok bolig i byene på sletten og han flyttet teltene sine så langt som til Sodoma. 13 Men Sodomas menn var onde og syndet grovt mot Herren. s
Herrens løfte til Abram
14 Og Herren sa til Abram etter at Lot hadde skilt lag med ham: Løft nå dine øyne og se ut fra stedet der du står - mot nord, mot syd, mot øst og mot vest! 15 For hele det landet som du ser, til deg vil jeg gi det, og til din ætt for alle tider. s16 Jeg vil la din ætt bli som støvet på jorden. Hvis et menneske er i stand til å telle jordens støv, så skal også din ætt kunne telles. s17 Stå opp og dra gjennom landet så langt og så bredt som det er! For deg vil jeg gi det. 18 Og Abram flyttet teltene sine. Han kom til Mamres terebintelund i Hebron, og der bosatte han seg. Der bygde han et alter for Herren. s
