Devil-proof, Luke 4:1-3

Scripture: Luke 4:1-3 MSG Now Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wild. For forty wilderness days and nights he was tested by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when the time was up he was hungry. The Devil, playing on his hunger, gave the first test: “Since you’re God’s Son, command this stone to turn into a loaf of bread.”

Observation: The devil knew when to attack Jesus. He didn’t approach Jesus when he was well rested. He didn’t approach Him when he was well-fed. He waited until Jesus had been in the wilderness for 40 days and hadn’t eaten one drop of food. Jesus was tired and hungry. He probably wanted nothing more than a tall glass of water , a hot meal and bed to rest in. The devil told him: if you’re REALLY the son of God, turn this stone into bread! But Jesus wasn’t playin the devil’s games. The devil came at Jesus when he was at His lowest point, but Jesus didn’t give in.

Application: This is how the devil works. He doesn’t bother you when things are going great. When you’ve had plenty of rest, when your marriage is tight and you have no worries of troubles. Nope! He tempts you when things aren’t going so well, when you’re tired, worried, hungry, thirsty, angry. The devil knows your weak spot and you can bet your bottom dollar that he’ll come at you during those times. How can you stay strong like Jesus did? Get Jesus in your heart. Plant Him there. He’s like a suit of armor against anything the devil could think up. He’s the best protection plan you could ever have, a guarantee that the devil has no chance in your life!

Prayer: Father I thank You for Your word this morning. Thank You for showing me the message of being strong against the devil schemes. Help me to take care of myself so that I am strong, well rested, well fed and confident. You know my weaknesses, help me to fill my heart with Jesus so that the devil doesn’t even have a chance! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
