The cry of humanity
What makes Jesus weep is looking into the tear-filled eyes of a dear friend and seeing that friend collapse under the weight of the wages of sin- the weight of death that is felt most intensely by one who loves, crying out as she falls to the ground at his feet with the central cry of humanity which so testifies to the distance that's been allowed to grow between the holy and the common: "God, if you were here, this wouldn't have happened!"
