Formula for Knowing God's Will
- Conformed + Transformed + Renewed = Prove God's will?
It seems like things are totally out of order. In my life, I seems like I always want to know what God's will is first (Prove) so that I might follow and as a result be renewed and transformed into more of the person God created me to be. And the result of that is to not be conformed to the world.
So it's no wonder why it seems so hard to know God's will sometimes. Apparently I've been going about it all wrong.
God wants our love and our faith first. He wants our trust. He wants us to take steps to be transformed first. How are we transformed? By "renewing our mind". So what does that mean?
To me, renewing my mind means that I need to change the way I think. In order to do that, I need a new line or method of thinking. Looking at that objectively, it seems like a new line of thinking would require some external thoughts or ideas to come into conflict with my existing way of thinking. (Otherwise how will I ever come to think in a new way?)
So where will we get this new way of thinking? Where can we go to get a way of thinking that can be trusted? There are plenty of places in the world that will tell us how and what to think, but I question their authenticity and accuracy.
No, instead I think the source of this new thinking should be to allow these words, the Bible, God's own words to us, to come into conflict with my way of thinking. In this singular act, I find my mind is challenged to change, challenged to not be conformed to the ways of the world around me.
And as this happens, it is only then will we begin to understand God's will. This is Paul's formula for knowing God's will.
