Hebrews overview


Author: The author of Hebrews is unknown. Many people assume that Paul wrote the book, and even the King James Bible credits Paul with authorship. But Paul would likely have been dead for about a year if the date of writing 68 ad is correct. Much speculation is made that Apollos wrote Hebrews. The book was written by a Jew with much familiarity to Tabernacle instructions. Written in beautiful Greek.

Purpose: the book was written in a pivotal time in the history of the church. Many Christians were at this time beginning to face persecution from Jews from saying that they were Christians. They began saying that they were Jewish Christians, so as not to face hardship.

Topics: purpose and worship of Christ, connects Old and new testaments, goes back to OT and pulls out some foreshadowing of Christ. Jesus as prophet, priest and king.
