How to Exalt Yourself

Sometimes we want to be 'exalted'. We want to be honored for something we did and receive the credit. We want to be praised and recognized as great and talented. It is natural to feel this way. Humility on the other hand is not thinking of yourself better than other people.

So here you are: you have the need to compete, win and get the trophy, but also, you know that, as a Christian, you are supposed to humble yourself.

Here is what how you might want to handle this challenge:

1. It is okay when OTHERS recognize your talents, work or abilities.
2. Immediately give God the credit, 'God, this is for you, not me'
3. Accept the recognition, praise with a big 'thank you' and a smile.
4. If it was a team effort, transfer the credit publicly to them 'with the help of so-and-so, I was able to win, you deserve this more than me.'
5. Never Praise yourself. It is dumb whe you do it.

As a Christian, it is okay to want to be exalted. Don't be afraid to be recognized for something as long as you follow Jesus' rule: humble yourself to be exalted.
