The Darkness

The unexplained darkness came as a result of Jesus becoming sin. God shielded himself from looking upon this horror. God could not look at it; He had to turn away. This is why Jesus says he is thirsty (see John's gospel). Jesus has been out of communion with God for 3 hours and is out of "Living Water".
